The default settings for my machine are set at 4x6", glossy, standard. Most of my copies are 8.5x11", plain paper, so I have to change the settings manually each time the machine is turned on. How can I reset the default settings?

HP's are notorious for not recognising paper sizes. Especially if you are out of the USA. HP printers are default set for USA paper. I have to set mine every now and again to the UK paper size system before it will print within the borders.
Go to paper selection etc and set the paper sizes before you print. Eventually, they do memorise the settings, as odd as that sounds.
go to start / control panel / printers and faxes / your default printer properties / and then printing preferences / and go to each tab and set it to default ....and if that doesnt work.....unplug and turn off printer and uninstall all drivers from uninstall or add remove program and the reinstall the drivers ...it should work
