Question about HP Photosmart 8250 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I have an HP Photosmart 8250 and I love my little printer! It has recently started to make me crazy however. I am trying to print, but keep getting the message "Paper jam. Clear jam the press OK." I have looked and looked, but can find no paper jam anywhere!

Hi Worldvet! Thank you so much for your help! I have tried all of those (except for the "Service It" step) and still nothing. Of course, I needed to print things to take to work tomorrow. I'm almost hoping that the next step involves a ball peen hammer!

  • tmuzina Dec 04, 2008

Sadly, I guess it's not a stuck sensor. I tried some heavier paper and it fed through quite nicely. However, that still didn't fix it. For the "last resort" I do have the "ok" and "cancel" buttons, but no "color" or "black" buttons. I would love to stay awake and try to get this dang thing fixed tonight, but seeing as I have to get up in less than 4 hours, I will have to wait until tomorrow to try out your great advice. Guess they'll have to wait until Friday for these papers. (For what it's worth, this printer seems to be doing a lot of "clicking" as it turns on and starts up - which it never did before the paper jam error.)

I so appreciate everything you've done thus far! Thank you so very much!!! I can't wait to try your next-to-the-last option - and am hoping that I will not have to try my "last" option - a hammer and then a priest!

Well, it's a sad day here. All of your incredibly gracious help has been to no avail - I just had to administer Last Rites. However, I will be going out this week end to purchase a new one. (I'm thinking HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One Printer, Fax, Scanner, Copier since it uses the same ink - of which I have a boat load.) Of course, two weeks ago, I just purchased an Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner.... *sigh*

Thank you soooooo very much for everything!!!

I have a HP Photosmart 8250 and printing on some Christmas paper that has some graphic on the left margin. I get the error, Paper upside down, please remove the paper and reinsert. The printer will not print on the side with the pre-printed graphic. Is there a setting to change.

You and a whole lot of other owners. Glad you responded promptly. The next step involves resetting the machine using HP service tech techniques. It involves a bit of finger torture.

I do need to rest assured you've look in all the roller feeders for a little paper scrap as well, as those can cause this paper jam error.

I'll send the reset technique shortly.

You will want to have thicker paper on hand to press, paper feed while pushing the thicker paper through the paper path. This will reset a paper jam sensor if a sensor stuck in the up position is failing.

In lieu of heavier card stock cut a heavy magazine cover to the size of an 8 1/2 width piece of paper. A cover like that of Cosmo, whether you have one or not, you should get the idea.

Remove the back of the printer and push the heavier paper through from the back to the front. The paper needs to be stiff and the same width as regular paper in order to reset a stuck sensor. Hopefully it is a stuck sensor.

Should that fail to help, try this as a last resort if and only if you have these buttons.

Hold down the OK, Cancel, Black and Color buttons while turning it off and keep the buttons held down, turned it back on, it should shut itself off. Now, turn it back on again.

If your model does not have these buttons let me look again.

Turn the printer off. Remove the power cable from the power source. Remove the USB cable. Leave the power cable off for twenty minutes.

Reattch the power cable only. Press and hold the Cancel button down. Now, power the printer on while continuing to hold the cancel button or reset button down. Keep the Cancel/Reset button down. See if the machine doesn't go into a maintenance reset mode and give you an error code and not an error message.

But, I believe you have a gear issue now and not a simple problem we can resolve over the web.

What some people have been known to do is buy an extended warranty for $50 and upon receipt call for service and end up with a replacement. But its the same printer. With this in mind there are some pretty good inexpensive HP or Epson economy printers today. If you buy from an online retailer like tiger dot ca or newegg dot com its worth the extra $15 for an additional year warranty. Printer only come with a one year standard as thats about the best you can expect with heavy printing. My preference is for Epson which we own, but I make more money fixing HPs. So, think about that and sorry we couldn't help you out this time.

Don't bother to rate this when you're prompted, its only the FixYa ratings that matter and if I or we can't deliver there's no need to rate at all.

    Best of luck,
    Worldvet

The best appreciation you could give me beside getting an Epson would be to change up your vote to Helpful.

But, this choice is yours alone.

    Thanks,
    Worldvet

Ink problem

I know this sounds silly but did you pull the blue tape off of the printer cartridge before you installed it? If you did, try removing it and installing it again. Maybe it was not aligned right. Also, there is a way in the HP printer software to instruct it that you installed a new cartridge - try that too.
