Check the rectifier board installed under gen cover that powers the brushes. This board has a capacitor about 1 inch long and 3/4 inch dia. If the capacitor looks swollen or burned replace board or carefully remove cap and replace with similar. You can use a larger capacitor with same rating, just tie cap to rear cover. Also check the condition of the brushes. Parts are not too expensive. Check with jacksmallengines on the web for parts. enjoy

I'm dumb. Can I hook an inverater to my generator and produce more enegry than my generator produces???

Please understand that the generator produces power from fuel with an engine wheras the invertor is one which genrerates power from a stored battery using the principle of frequency switching a DC source to induct and produce AC.
Now you can have an uninterupted power supply setting with the invertor backed up by the generator so that when the battery voltage goes down you can start and charge the invertor and also supply the extra energy .
the ratings of both must also be considered.

How do i get power from my generator, gnerators on but i cant use outlets or ac micro nothing only lights work

The maximum power produced by your generator is in its rating. It can be produced if you keep the frequency by adding more fuel to the engine.
If the fuel is insufficient, no matter why - the frequency (rpm) will drop down and the motor may even stop.

Troy bilt gas portable generator not producing

First thing to check is to see if the generator is actually turning--couplers sometimes fail. You need some electrical skills and a voltmeter to trace down problems in the generator beyond checking the health of the two brushes that supply current (< 115 volts DC) into the rotor field circuit. You can find wiring and schematic drawings on the Troy-Built web site, just look for the 030248 model. Another person that I worked with had a similar unit with the same problem. It looked like the voltage regulator board was the problem, but haven't heard back if he had fixed it.

Engine works but no power is produced

I have a COLEMAN 6250 Watt Powermate too, and it stopped producing 3 hrs into our blackout. I unbolted the four 7/16" bolts holding the end bell assembly, and looked at the circuit board (bridge rectifier assembly) and saw that 4 of the diodes had melted free from the circuit board. This is a $30 replacement part, and seems to be a common problem with these units. http://www.jackssmallengines.com/coleman_control_board.cfm
Other common and cheap to fix problems may be the brushes are worn out. Unscrew the phillips screws under the plastic tab on the end bell of the generator, and pull out the metallic rectangular posts attached to the copper wires. If they are shorter than 1/4", broken, or uneven, they may need to be replaced. They are about $3 each.
I probably drew too much power from 1 outlet on the generator, and it caused the board to fail instead of tripping the circuit breaker. (BTW, the repair shop told me it would cost $550 to replace the entire rotor/stator circuit board assembly. I have a strong feeling they didn't even look at any of the above parts, because they didn't have a clue as to what they were doing!)

I liken this to taking your car in because it won't start, and the mechanic saying you need a new engine!

Good luck!

Generator stopped producing electricity

if the generator has been sitting for a while you might have to excite the magnets to start producing power. plug in a reversible drill and with the generator running turn the drill in the reverse direction by hand while holding the trigger in the forward position.

Gererator stops producing power

This sounds like a "flying open" in the rotor. Over time a small part of the wire that winds around the rotor has gotten cracked just enough to open up when it's warm and being pulled on by the force of the rotor spinning. To test this further, take the wires off the brushes and connect an ohm meter across them then run the generator, if you see the ohm meter indicate an open circuit you've found the problem. This can be repaired but it means removing the rotor and finding the weak spot in the winding. You could replace the rotor for a couple of hundred dollars or get a new generator.

Regards,
Carl
