My whirlpool gold doesnt clean properly there is a sandy residue

My whirlpool gold doesnt clean properly. There is a sandy residue left in the glasses and cups, which is really strange as it isn't there BEFORE I wash the dishes!

No, there wasn't a "milky" residue -- just like a sand stuck to the bottom of the cups and glasses and the insides.

dishes come out with sandy and milky residue

my kenmore dishwasher with a built in disposal device leaves sandy residue in glasses and cups.

It has also stopped draining completely after washes. I have to push the drain button to complete draining

I also had this "white" problem. I did get a water softner and it was amazing the difference. Arizona water is very hard. I still had food particules on my glasses. I just fixed the problem, I hope. The water pipe under the upper tray was unclipped and the water arm was not turning. Just heard today on the TV that lemonaid koolaid cleans dishwashers or rusts and stains. It's much more cheaper if it works.

Sounds like you have a calcium issue with your water. if you have a water softner time to get it serviced. also you can get a cleaner for the dishwasher to clean it out called Dishwasher Magic.

I have a maytag jetclean quiet pack dishwasher. The top dishes are not getting clean. The glasses always have sandy residue in them and sometimes orange juice etc at the bottom of the glass isn't removed....

Possible that the pump is not working well to spray and inject with good pressure so that the dishes are spot clean.
You will need to simulate the washer without any dish and checck the performance to understand the fault areas.
The middle section also must spray well another reason your dishes are not clean when kept low.
The entire system has to be taken out and the water flow sections must be cleaned. the pump must work and spray with high pressure or else it must be clogged , the reason for sluggish spray.
So check the inlets, the water lines and the pump.
The rest sems fine.

Sandy grit left on dishes.

I was having a different issue with the same model but I think my issues solution might help yours. My dishwasher was not draining properly. It was the air gap that sits on top of the counter by the sink. It was clogged. We removed it and cleaned it out. Maybe if your air gap is slightly clogged as well it is not allowing the dirty water to flow out properly leaving you with gritty dishes. Hope this helps.

Not cleaning properly

Our Whirlpool Quiet Wash plus is 20+ years old and was on its way out the door because of erratic white residue, spotting, and film.  Nothing worked: vinegar, different soaps, more soap, less soap. Today I opened it up and started digging behind covers and checking the insides - multiple places were clogged with a soap/mineral film - ugly! I sprayed the insides with Restore 4 (a tile cleaner) and scraped and brushed and broke loose the hidden deposits. The only thing I didn't open was the sump pump - but now know how to do so. (thanks FixYa) Then I added about a 1/2 quart of vinegar and ran it full hot on the heavy wash cycle, added more vinegar between each cycle and let it dry.  It looks super inside - the gunk is gone.  I am now washing a load of glasses and am hoping for the best!

Sandy glasses

Are you making sure your heater is ok??Water temp should be taken and be 120 or hotter. If its not turn up water heater temperature. If heating coil is not working replace it.It provides the heat to the D/W and aids in the heated Dry cycle. The solution for spotted/foggy glass problems all  start with making sure your water is Hot enough.Rinse aid is the second.

I have sand in tall glasses when washed on the top shelf

jalexandruna the lid you opened on the dispenser that has 1-6 is where you pour in the rinse aid. As to if it will help or not, this sand issue may be hard water. Try using a eviromentally friendly detergent which is high in Citric Acid. Or try running a dishwasher cleaner like Dishwasher Magic thru the dishwasher to clean this residue out. Hope this helps
