Question about Kenmore 63263 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Microwave won't function.

When I try to start my Kenmore 63263 microwave, the fan and light come on for a few seconds, but the magnetron never engages, and it immediately shuts down. For the couple of seconds its running, the display reads 'close door' even though the door is closed. I checked all three micro-switches on the door, and they seem to be OK. What else can I check. Thanks

Thanks for the info. After checking all three swithces, which turned out to be good, I discovered a problem with the relay mounted on the control panel. I called Kenmore and convinced them to replace the circuit board. I'm waiting to recieve it in the mail. Thanks for your help.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount (which are pretty simple problems to fix) or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

You can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number at the Sears parts site.

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

There may also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

Kenmore Elite Microwave oven 63792 doesn't heat - all lights, turntable, fan, etc. work just fine.

Most likely it would be a bad magnetron since the light, turntable, and vent fan are running.

Microwave won't heat for first minute - starts working normally after that.

The magnetron may be defective. You can replace the magnetron, there is no other possibility.

How do I remove the smoky smell my microwave has after burning a paper plate while cooking in my #63263 kenmore

Hi! The best solution that i know is to wash it with vinegar, a simple vinegar will do it. Leave it with the vinegar on for about 2-3 minutes then wash it again with a regullar cleaning solution mixed with water. After that, rinse with plain water. This works great on fridges also...
I hope that will help you! Have a nice day!

Our Whirlpool over the range microwave makes a clicking sound for a few seconds then shuts the microwave off. The microwave is unusable. The sound seems to be coming from the control panel.

If the cooling fan is not working, that would explain the shutdown problem. The function of the fan is to cool the magnetron down when it is warming or cooking the food, if the fan fails to run, the thermal fuse will detect heat rise causing a shutdown with in 5 seconds or more, the clicking suggest fan issues. I would recommend a whirlpool technician to go through the system.

Microwave

Hi

3 things can fail - the control board, the inverter board, or the magnetron. If the microwave runs for about 7 seconds with a ticking sound..then stops and shows "F-9", it is the magnetron that has failed. The fact that the unit starts and runs with the TICKING SOUND means the control board is sending signal to inverter board and the inverter board is sending signal to magnetron. Magnetron is covered by full 5 year warranty, inverter board is only 3 years.

If this is not the case then it could be a defective control board, inverter or line voltage too high.

Please do rate the solution as "FixYa" if found useful and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

One of 2 things are happening..One of the thermo protectors has a bad connection (Kenmore is good for these) or the Magnetron has a leak inside the control cavity causing a temporary short in the control.

Maybe one of the fuses, get an engineer to look at it, for safety reasons.

No light, internal fan...then no display

The light isn't a safety issue but I would think that the fan would be.

The fan is designed to remove excess heat from unit and keep it cool. Without the fan, you're now operating the unit under conditions that it wasn't designed for.

With the unit unplugged, try removing the cover and see if a fuse has blown. If so, replace it with the EXACT value of the original.

See if the unit powers up again. Try heating heating up something for 30 seconds to see if the Magnetron is still functioning.

If so, check to see if the bulb is good. Did the bulb and fan stop at the same time? If so, it might be something in common that controls both.

Don't operate it further until you have it looked at. You don't want to cause something else to fail.

Good luck!
