Question about Televison & Video

My televisions screen is split. The right half has a picture the left has coloured lines. Sometimes i have a full screen and then it goes back to half. The tv is a Optima HD plasma.

    There are many cables on the set which one should ilook for. Also where would the sus cards be located.

    This solution does,nt help at all. What is the x buffer board and where is it and the main digital control board located. The first solution i received indicated loose cables or faulty sustainer cards. I asked what is a sustainer card and where is it located.

Need the model number for a better understanding of how that unit is put together (circuit design). Sounds like a dm board problem or Y-sus failure.

It seems to be some problem with your circuit ...so it is better u take it to nearest service center...

This failure could be due to a loose connection between the X buffer board and the main digital controller board. This failure might not be a DIY or if your plasma is less then a year old, still under manufacturers warranty.

It can be one of the sustain cards starting to go or a defective cable.

The sus cards should be tested and eventually replaced.

    Hi there,

    Sorry about late replay, but I am located in a different time zone, and I went offline shortly after my first answer.

    If "The right half has a picture the left has coloured lines.", than that is not a setting problem, that means that the TV has a fault.

    If the image is also dimmer than normal, then it is for sure the Sus board that has a blown fuse and must be replaced (fuse indicates board is defective).

    If you get vertical band on a portion of the screen this can also be because of one of the ribbon cables that connect to the screen.

    This cables have a built in chip technology, and when the chip is fried you get vertical bands starting from where the cable hooks up.

    To find out the technician must remove the metal bracket and cable from the connector and read impedance on the resistors located on the cable.

    On many models there is also a board called lower buffer , when that goes faulty you also get a verical band , or part of the screen black, or covered in lines, depending on the fault.

    The most common fault of this kind is a defective ribbon cable (there are several of them) with built in chip technology.

Without a specific model to work on, let's try this:
Pls check if you have this feature, PIP (picture in picture) or Split Screen, if yes, then disable. It normally should be a button by itself on the remote or under Menu/Settings. Additionally, pls check if such a button is available on the front panel control and flick on it, this is in case the button is stuck or intermittently contacting on its own due to sound vibration.

In the event that there is no such feature or the feature is already disabled, then conclusion would be that the internal electronics/logic circuitry controlling this feature is faulty and switching on by itself intermittently. The unit has to be opened up. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional. If the unit is still under warranty, demand replacement or repair.

I cant get it to work on full screen


I am having this same problem as this one above (62HM95). The issue I'm having is that it will also not work full screen. I selected the 'Split' option on the remote and the picture on the left is fine... absolutely clean and perfect, with audio. The picture on the right is completely distorted in very strange colors (mostly constant variations of purple), with audio as well. You should note, that the same video information was feed into different imputes to select for the split. In other words, I feed the cable stream into the TV using the component video (Y B R) as well as the coaxial cable and selected both options for the purposes of displaying the same information side-by-side. On screen I selected video option four (4 for color stream HD) and option (0 for cable/antenna). If I highlight either side and select one of them (4 or 0) the screen goes full screen and I see nothing but one solid color of purple. I've researched the purple and they call it 'Electric Purple'. That is all I see... just the solid purple, with the audio. What I have also noticed is that, If toggle between imputes while in the full screen option and come back to either option (4 or 0) the image plays/appears OK for about 2 seconds then goes back to solid purple. I just can't understand why this is happening especially when the on-screen menu displays perfectly fine. I cannot enjoy this TV by only watching half of it in split mode. Besides the multiple replacement bulbs I've had to buy I've completely had it with this TV

Panasonic TH-50PX70EA HAS A HALF SCREEN PERFECT BUT OTHER HALF IS LINED AND CHANGES COLOUR AND SOMETIMES GOES BLACK GETS CLOSE TO PERFECT THEN GOES LINED AGAIN PS sorry for caps


If its a Plasma it uses sustain or t con boards--sustain will usually be two--one for left side and one for right.

Only boards are sold for these sets--no individual parts--discover which board drives the right side and replace it while crossing your fingers--either it fixed the problem or you have a bad display panel (entire screen unit which is fatal from a cost point of view).

The set uses two boards to drive the screen --one for each half or side.

Different names are used like sustain or in LCD sets inverter.

I have the exact think happening on my Samsung LN46A530 and it has just been 2 years since I bought it. There better be a cheap fix for this because a $2,000 product has to last a lot longer than 2 years.

My iMac 17", 1.83 Ghz Intel CoreDuo screen dsiplays a split screen. Half gray and half normal. Does anyone know how to fix this?


Did you call up Apple already? please call them or the store where you bought your machine. Their technical support can help you out. DOn't try to do something with the machine yet.

Bottom half of screen doesn't work


Hello,
Since I do not have a picture of your screen, I can only guess. If it looks something like on the figure below, that can be fixed.

In the foregoing picture, the screen is split horizontally. The black cursor is in the lower half of actual screen. You can restore the full screen by pressing [MODE], and scrolling down till the last line Full Horiz G-T. Move cursor on Full and press [ENTER]. Then press [CLEAR] to go back to the main screen.

what are you using as input? On this set only digital channels can be the main picture. You can try the exch button to see if it comes back right also.
