I have the same problem. I printed about 10 pictures when I first got it. I let it sit about a year and when I tried to use it again I got that $%^ message.

HP Photosmart 7360 - Ink System Failure Oxc19ac008. HP tech support was not helpful but did want to charge quite a bit. Unplugged it, removed cartridges, etc. - still doesn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same problem and this is how I fixed it... It is hard to get the cover off (and it's not the top cover, but the one on the right side as facing), but once you do follow the directions below.

- Turn off power and unplug from power source.
- Open right side of printer (looking at the front).
- Disconnect by pulling gently, both white flat ribbon cables off the main circuit board.
- Plug in power source and turn printer on. Wait till you get a error message and push "Ok".
- Unplug power source.
- Reconnect the flat ribbon cables by aligning and carefully pushing into the conectors on the main circuit board.
- Plug in power source and turn printer on (Printer preparing occurred).

It worked like a charm! But saying it was hard getting the cover off is an gross understatement!
It could have easily gone wrong, but the alternative was a new printer anyhow so I'm happy it worked.

Found this on another site - it worked for the 7280 so will probably work for this one also:

1. Press and hold the '*' key on the key pad, then press the '#' key and release them both.
2. Enter '123' to enter maintenance mode.
3. Press the right arrow (beside the OK button) until System Configuration menu appears on panel.
4. Press OK two times to clear the error condition, then press "Cancel" until you are back at the top menu.
5. Power off and back on.

Note that I got one further error message, but restarting the printer again resolved it.

My HP D7360 won't print. Its says the "ink system has failed. Unable to print. Refer to printer Doc. Error: 0xc05d1281" Now, I lifted the printer up and it sounds like a screw bouncing around on the inside. How do I take this thing apart to find the screw and put it back in it's place???

Filling your cartridge with non-HP ink won't cause an error. There are basically two reasons for ink system failure, The cartridge is no good or the ink system has failed. Some of these machines can be reset. But, try replacing cartridge first.

HP support decided it could not be repaired on line, agreed to replace it but found it was a few days out of waranty...so it is dead in the water. Probably not cost effective to repair it.
