Hi joan

inside the crankcase you must align the timing marks of the crankshaft and camshaft gears.Put the valves tapets, camshaft and oil pump.If you need farther explanations let me know.

Also, could be a broken piston ring, if oil continues to come out after clean up and running for a few minutes, you will need to do a dry then a wet compression test, if there is no difference in the pressure from wet to dry, then it's valve related, if there is difference, it's the rings.

I have a 725 & an 825 series engines on two lawn mowers. They are almost impossible to restart after they have been run & you stop for fuel or to empty the bag. Can you suggest a solution ?

Run a compression test to find out the condition of the piston rings and valves. Low compression on a hot engine indicates either worn piston rings or not enough clod clearance on the valves.

Diesel engine "loping"

I haven't played with too many diesels, but many cause of a miss are similar. If it doesn't miss all the time, then I think you can rule out a compression problem(at least as far as rings/piston/cylinder).You could have a valve sticking,or maybe a plugged injector. Not sure of a good way to figure out which cylinder is missing, maybe someone else could give you an answer to this on here.(You could check for a sticking valve by running it with the valve cover off,I suppose).

Oil is coming out the exhaust.

This means your piston rings are worn out, your valve tappets/valves are worn out or misadjusted, or you put too much oil in your crankcase. Most likely you have worn out piston rings, but in most cases you will need to have the engine rebuilt.

Would regular grade gas ruin the motor?

Hi Thomas--
I recommend you use the highest octane available for small engines. Octane is a measure of a fuel's resistance to preignition. Small engines have no mechanisms to overcome a poor fuel's shortcomings, and you could foul pistons, rings, valves, and plugs without knowing it.

remove cutter disc from pto
hold blade in vise and weld the blade bolt head to blade on the grass cutting side using welder ( this transfers heat to threads and helps ) then undo nuts while still clamped in vise

repeat for other blades

always use new blades , bolts , nuts and washers

I have a noise in front of engine near valves when running, 12HP what could cause this ?

if engine is not smoking to much, valves and piston rings must be alright, but it could be the cam or connecting rod. but before taking the engine apart, as it may be sticky valves or piston rings, buy a can of engine tune up from automotive store (4$), one that says it removes gum build up in engine. only use half the can, run engine for half hour, drain and place in new oil. and first thing to try would be premium fuel, because low octane will cause ping in some engines

The engine on my Sprint 375 floods when trying to start

Check the float in the carb. bowl for gumming and clean your carb.. If you haven't done so already. Or you can try running a fuel treatment through your fuel. That may help you with your flooding issues. Good luck.
