Open the front of the canister and remove the bag. As you are looking at the front of the unit, there are two vinyl coverd strips that run the length of the unit. Pull forward on these strips and then pull out so that the vinyl seperates from the plastic underneath. Now grab the plastic strip with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull towards the front of the canister. These can be tough if the machine has never been opened up before, but pull as hard as you need to, to slide the strip out. Once both strips are out, turn the machine over, pull out on the sides of the bottom of the unit, and lift up. The bottom should come of relatively easily, and eveything will be exposed. Good Luck!!

Starts but turns off immediately. red symbol lights up

check your bag for fullness, if full, change it.
if not, try adjusting your grit control on the top of the canister to the largest setting.
if your vac still shuts off, you need to replace the control valve assembly.

My electrolux Epic 6500 power nozzle Model N109J will not work. It had an intermittent short which I thought I fixed (some of the insulation on the wires were pinched). I fixed the wires and it worked...

The switch is definitely a possibility, but other problems can also cause this.
Bad switch, needs replaced.
Broken wiring in power nozzle, wands, hose, or canister.
Bad PN motor.

I strongly recommend taking it to the nearest authorized Aerus Electrolux store for a diagnosis (should be free). Allowing them to do any repairs necessary is recommended, as well. This will ensure it's done correctly.

What does the warning light with question mark mean on the Electrolux Epic 6500 SR canister?

It means to check the bag. Your bag is either missing or misaligned and has slipped past the little clear sensor or bag lockout plunger in the corner of the bag chamber at the door.
Remove the bag turn on the vac and push this switch, the vac should start when the switch is depressed. If not the internal switch inside the vac is misaligned or damaged. Please post back to confirm how you make out

What size/model bags do I need for my Electrolux Epic 6500 SR vacuum?

You need an Electrolux Cannister bag to fit pre 2001 Series cannisters. You can fin them at a VAC Service center or thru AERUS Electrolux. Buy only a 4 ply bag, nothing thinner.

I can not get the power cord to go back into the canister.

If you can't get it to go back in by pulling on it, you will need to open up the machine to rewind it by hand. You can now see the cordwinder and the spring that pulls the cord back in. If it's not broken, you should be able to manipulate the spring reel by hand and get the cord started so that it will rewind by itself. If not, you probably need to have the cordwinder replaced. Good Luck!!

Repair manual for Electrolux EPIC 6500 SR

I don't have a manual for these but the trickiest thing about these units is taking them apart. If you have an Aerus/Electrolux dealer near you, it's not a bad investment to have them install the motor for you. You would probably receive a warranty with the work, and the things a long time. Great return on investment. But if you are determined to do it yourself, open the front of the canister and remove the bag. Bag Full Sensor

Opening The Unit:
Remove the hose, open the door, and remove the bag. Making sure that the door is open wide enough, pull the rubber strip on each side of the canister toward the opening until they are completely removed. With a little shifting, you will now be able to pry open the top cover from the bottom. Remove the obstruction sensor hose so that you can completely separate the halves.
Note: If the strips will not move toward the front, the you will have to slide them off to the rear. You will need two screwdrivers to pry open the top rear of the unit far enough to release the back cover.

Locating The Switch:
The "trip" switch is located on the inside top cover under the power button. The trip switch is activated by the sensor valve next to it.
