Question about Car Speakers & Subwoofers

4 Answers

I have a 98 Lexus LS400. My CD player is not working now. I get a message that says ERR 1. IT sounds like the player is just spinning thru the CDs but not inserting it to play. I have a compact cartiridge magazine that holds 6 CDs. Any idea what the problem is and if it can be repaired? Thanks

Well, the error is trying to tell you what is actually wrong. If you have the paper work and owners manual that came with your car, it should be in there.

Most likely it has a Jam or something broke inside. You most likely wont be able to fix it yourself as it is probably made with specialized part by lexus. But if your up for it, first look up the code and then try repairing whatever the issue is.

If you want, try this first. Dissconect your battery completely for about five minutes and then reconnect. this will reset the cars computer and cd player and time and stations and all that. yes its a bummer having to reset all that but it should clear the error code. Now clearing the error code will work if its just some stupid software error or read disk error. It could be that the laser is dirty adn just requires you going to a store and buying a disk cleaner CD whcih has lttle vrushes and will clean the laser as it plays. try that too. but if something is actually physically broken, it will come back when you try and play a cd. in that case you will know its something that requires removeing and repairing.

is this a custom CD player or was it factory install?

If its factory, you may be able to find one on Ebay rather than paying more than that to have it replaced by Toyota.

let me know what happens and if i can help further.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls try loading a CD cleaner disc. This is in the hope that it is just a dirty lens. You could also try spraying with a can of compressed air the insides accessible from the catridge slot opening. Another that could be tried is to remove all the power going to unit. This is to reset the unit and revert it back to factory defaults. A friendly warning, there are some models that would require a security code before activation when the power is removed.

Another possibility is mechanical error in the loading/gearing system. While this should normally be repairable, the unit has to be removed and benchtested/repaired. The downtime and the cost of repair may make the actual repair not practical. You may have to consider other options aside from repair.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Personally I would just replace the radio. In dash changers go bad easily and are basically just a problem waiting to happen. The average life span of an in dash changer is about two years.

The err message has nothing th do with theft lock. More than likely the laser assembly is bad. You are probably better off replacing the deck with an aftermarket one.

The problem is getting the word 'err' when inserting a CD. The CD contains files of type MP3, music files. However, this isn't the case for all CDs. I am not sure what are their types, but some cds...

Check the specs of your audio system; not all can use MP3s or read CD-Rs or CD-RWs. Commercial CDs have a different file format.

If your system can read MP3s and the media you are using (CD-R or CD-RW, most likely), next make sure that you finalized the discs in question. (Finalization ensures that a disc written by one machine is readable to another.) The only other possible issue is a tracking problem (the machine that wrote the tracks put them in an place that the sound system isn't finding). If the computer optical drive is the source of the error, it's usually cheaper to replace instead of repairing.

I hope this helps.

I hav a clarion auto cd/stereo displaying err 6 please explain, thank you

Error 1.Battery inside CD Changer needs to be replaced.
Error 2.CD error message. Mechanism has as eject problem or takes a long time to select CD.
Error 3.CD error message. The pick-up is out of focus during play mode due to scratches on the disc or contamination.
Error 4.Connection problem. Reconnect the data cable.
Error 5.CD error message. Could not read correct data due to CD ROM.
Error 6.CD error message. Could not read data from disc because it is upside-down.

For error code 6:
Try an original purchased cd with no scratches and see if the cd player reads it. If yes then lens is dirty or tired so try using a cleaning cd(has little brushes on it). If it doesn't read with the original cd try using the cleaning cd and if no go then look at purchasing a new cd player!

Don't know if this will help, but with my panasonic CQ-C8300N there are 4 error messages, all to do with CDs.

They are as follows:

CD E1 - Disc is dirty, or upside down.
CD E2 - Disc has scratches.
CD E3 - No operation by some cause! - see your dealer.
CD E4 - The file is not readable.

From my panasonic manual.
