Recently received a new Motherboard Gateway Nimitz 2 Seabreeze motherboard. I was told by supplier NOT to use the Original Bestec Atx250-12e power supply as te supply would damage the motherboard. Any way to find out what poer supply is compatible with this motherboard ? I purchased a Bestec ATX-300-12E power supply, would this also not be compatible to the Gateway Nimitz 2 Sabreeze motherboard ??

You can get something cheap and decent quality that should be compatible. This one is 20 bucks:

I think he is talking about the unit's size and configuration. It sure looks prety chinsy. As a good rule of thumb a good quality Power supply feels heavy.I would favor a power supply nade by a popular manufacturer. This is exellent for the price. Its 80 plus certified.

Removed power cord from back of pc and after plugging it back in I suddenly had no power. Replaced original power supply (Bestec 300 W 24 pin main connector) with a new Dynex 400W 20+4 pin and still...

Before calling it quits on the motherboard, try disconnecting ALL non-essential devices from the motherboard.

This includes drive cables, all slot mounted cards, etc.

Leave the processor and ram in place. Make sure ALL power cords from the power supply to the motherboard are properly plugged in. Some power supplies have 2 cords to the motherboard, a large plug and possibly a separate 4 pin that plugs in near the CPU. After checking your plugs, see if the board will power up. If so, you should get some beeps or status lights. If not, then it is likely the board has failed. Since you have replaced the original power supply, (assuming the replacement is compatible), it is not likely you have 2 bad power supplies.

If the board DOES power up, then plug in 1 internal device at a time to determine what might be "killing" the boot. A bad hard drive or DVD/CD drive can cause this as well as a shorted USB or firewire device.

Emachines E4252 shutting down on boot up

This could easily be a power problem. You can check for overheating, but I would recommend not attempting to turn on the computer again, until you test the power supply.

eMachines (and gateway) have a long history of using Bestec Power Supplies (recognizable for their bright yellow warning label). These are highly defective and can result in the frying of your motherboard and/or processor.

I would recommend checking what kind of power supply you have. If it is a Bestec, it is most likely defective (or will become defective soon). Based solely on that, I would replace it. In addition, it may have already damaged your processor (causing it to get too hot easily) or your motherboard. Its rough, but better you fix it now, as opposed to replacing the motherboard or processor, just to have the power supply fry the new one (the Bestec PSUs still look like they function when they have failed, but send completely unreliable volts to your board).

If you need assistance finding new parts, I can direct you to cost effective alternatives.

just start over and buy a motherboard and processor and memory and plug your stuff into it. you will need an operating system because the emachines operating system only workes with an emachines motherboard. emachines is the cheap brand from gateway and i have had nothing but trouble with those machines. Hope this helps and good luck

I have an emachine t5026 that won't turn on. It sounds like a car tying to start and the lights on the front flash as does the light on the mouse, but it won't start.

Gateway 831gm not booting. Fans come on but no boot process.

2 questions:
When you say new motherboard do you mean an actual new motherboard or new to that machine, but came from another used model?
When you say you tested the power supply do you mean with a voltmeter/ammeter or put it in another computer and it worked?
I worked on several gateways with similar problems and it boiled down to motherboard issues.
I tested it by replacing the power supply with a bigger (used) power supply and it worked great (for 1 time) and then put the other power supply back in to confirm my diagnosis and yep it wouldn't boot. The next morning I was going to run some virus/malware cleanup and installed the other (known good) power supply and it would not work. I tried all day to get it to boot and it did about twice in a 4 hour period. When it did run it would run great but any attempt to restart it would cause it to crash. No ryhme or reason, it would not fail the same way more than twice. Sometimes beeps, other times no beeps, sometimes it would start up with no video (could hear the Windows starting sounds) other times it would start up normal. I could let it sit and it would start or I could keep trying in sucession and it would eventually start. Some times the fans would slow down from a roar, sometimes they wouldn't. So with a known good power supply that had 150 more watts than the original I diagnosed it as a failed motherboard. But if you have put in a brand new motherboard then I would replace the power supply, because a bad power supply does not mean no power, just not enough power. Please post back and let us know what you find out.

New motherboard for the T2862

Hi,
you probably won,t get it to boot off the original hard-drive. As that will be mated up to the old motherboard.
i,d suggest putting a new hard-drive in, then transfering any required data to the new drive, you should be able to transfer most of your files accross, but will have conflicts trying to copy some windows files. as they,ll be in use by the system.
