Question about B&K AVR-202

1 Answer

My Fender Bassman 100 amp keeps buzzing.

My bass amp has an awful buzz in it.  It buzzes no matter if the knobs are at 0 or 10, whether a bass in plugged in or not.  I know it's not the cable, or the bass because I've tried several different of both.  If I play the bass it actually goes through the amp, but it's covered with that terrible, loud buzz.  Someone else on here had a similar problem with their amp, and the answer given made a little bit of sense, but I had a question about it.  He said the "cap" might be out.  I don't know what that is.  Anyway, could you please help?  This is a pretty expensive amp, and I don't have the money for a new one, or to send it to a repair shop.  I'm pretty good about fixing these kinds of problems, I just don't know what is broken for me to fix it.  Thank you very much

After a while of that crappy buzz, the thing just quit producing sound. The light still comes on, so I know power is being received, but no sound.

Part of the power supply is a filtering stage that completes the conversion from AC current to DC. The "cap" is a capacitor that furnishes voltage to help smooth the alternating current that is left from the rectifier stage. These will start to fail over time. While it is a relatively simple repair for anyone that does this for a living, I would not suggest this as your first repair. Expect a parts cost inthe $20 range plus the local labor rate for the entire repair.

Fret buzz only on E string. Adjusted truss and action, and still buzz. Some relief when I turn bass knob higher than the rest

This sounds like a worn nut groove. The string is sitting too low. Does the buzz happen all the way up the neck or just on open string?

My Marshall MG50 DFX Has an awful buzzing sound that comes out of it after startup.

I would check C22 and C24 the main smoothing capacitors. They can fall out at worst or just have bad solder at best.

My Fishman Loudbox 100 bass speaker buzzes- what could it be? Someone suggests it could be a poor ground, and to replace the input wire, etc. Does he mean the guitar input cable? The speaker does not sound...

It is a poor ground but it is not necessarily in your amp.
If it is only buzzing when you have a guitar or other piece of equipment connected try a new lead cable.
If it buzzes all of the time......remove the cover at the rear of the amp and remove control panel.
Inspect the feed line to the input. If it is loose or broken....repair or take to have repaired.

Buzzing sound coming from the speaker at certain frequencies. more so when the bass is cranked. do i have to replace the speaker? or could it just be loose??

That is happening because your grounds went bad. Without grounds, then the amp will produce a buzzing sound. I would replace the input wire, that is probably the problem

Keep blowing out bass on speakers Denon 75rd

Thank you for responding. I called in an audio specialist to look at the whole system--he believes there is a problem with the amplifier. Will post what he finds out when he looks inside.

Amplifier is buzzing when i plug in my les paul but ok with other

Several things to try:
- Probably already have, but another guitar cord.
- Ground switch on the amp?
- I had an older guitar that buzzed due to the pickups. While touching the strings, all was well - I was acting as the ground then. The ground wire broke, so it buzzed no matter what. The ground wire ran to the metal bridge.
- Play louder than the buzz! :)

I have a Trace Elliot bass amplifier (gp7sm 130) and it makes a buzzing soound. Any ideas?

First check all of the ground connections both at the amp and bass. If the amp makes the buzzing with no input at all, the problem is most likely a bad cap in the front end of the amp. These are not the easiest to work on. I would suggest that you bring the amp to a servicer for repair. Anything that you can describe that indicates when the buzzing is more evident would be helpful in tracking down the problem.
