Question about Dell 3100cn Laser Printer

1 Answer

We need to replace black toner cartridge.

We have done this many times over the last several years. However, this time it is not dislodging. I've raised and lowered the latch on the right side of the cartridge several times without sucess.

Thank you. Your suggestion helped me resolve the problem.

I actually wound up having to remove the drum cartidge then rotate the carousel of 4 toner cartridges upward about 120 degrees and take the black cartridge out from the top. Apparently the printer structure wasn't allowing the release latch on the catridge to rotate high enough to release.

The release latch is jammed. I have had this occur before. It sometimes involves removing or raising the assy up and away from the toner and then working it slightly back and forth until it releases. Once you get it out be sure to check the release assy. it may need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Try to reassemble so that this does not reoccur again. I am glad you got it resolved.

Toner wont load

there are only a few things you can try, and it sounds like you've done most of them. If the steps in the document linked below didn't help, then you could do a physical printhead cleaning. Bob_Headrick gave the steps for doing that in the post linked below. If none of that is working, you can either replace the printhead by contacting HP tech support, or you will need to replace the printer. HP Printer Support

4 black lines at every print

Mostly black lines prints due to problem in the Black toner cartridge. remove the Black toner out and inspect the toner drum, whether are their any black patch on the toner drum. If it so there's a problem in the black toner. Replace a new black toner and check.

Error message "put the black toner cartridge back in"

I got this same error message on a newly acquired Brother DCP-7040 that I purchased used off of ebay.

As I was troubleshooting this unit (that I bought untested off of ebay - hey gambling has paid off handsomely for me many times before!), this error message kept popping up.

I checked the COUNTERS (page & Drum life) and found out that the DRUM had 0% life left. BUT, the reason it showed ZERO was because this unit did not have any drum! The toner cartridge (TN-360) needs to sit WITHIN the drum (DR-360) on this DCP-7040 unit, as well as in models DCP-7030, MFC-7340, MFC-7345C, and MFC-7440N.

So perhaps some of these "put the black toner cartridge back in" problems could be related to the DRUM (or lack thereof). A possible tipoff (since the toner cartridge actually does slide into the unit much like other units that do not use Brother's DRUM carrier) seems to be the relative ease with which the toner cartridge slides into the DCP-7040 and really doesn't seem to "lock" into position real firmly.

Just replaced black cartridge in my 2600n color laser. I have smudged about a half inch wide 2/3rds over the right of each page. It only smudges in black. I have recalibrated several times. Printed at...

If this just started after you replaced the toner cartridge, one would have to say that it is a bad toner cartridge.
Print something that smudges. Pull down the front cover and look at the cartridges. Pay attention to the top one(black).
Look at the drum on that cartridge. You should see the toner sitting there. Compare it to the other cartridges which should be clean.

My printer comes up with an error saying I need to slide the green tab in the drum/cartridge back and forth several times and return the green tab back to where it belongs. I have done this several times...

Moving the GREEN TAB moves the toner-ink inside the cartridge, to more uniformly spread it.

Since the toner-cartridge is nearly empty, you probably need to replace the toner-cartridge with a "full" one.

Low print quality

It depends upon the number of prints you have done since Feb and the toner cartridge capacity. Some toner cartridges have 2500 page capacity others have 5000 pages or more.
If you think you have not exceeded or reached the cartridge capacity, take it out of the printer and give it a shake in a horizontal position to distribute the toner evenly across the drum and place it back in the printer. This also works when the toner is nearly empty.

No black printing out in my 2600n printer

Try taking the black toner cartridge out, hold it by its ends and rock it back and forth several times. Also gently tap on the catridge a few times too. This will dislodge and redistribute the toner which is still inside.

Error code 54.18

The error code 54.18 means that there was an error with black toner cartridge toner level sensor. Try taking the cartridge out and shake it a little to loosen up the toner inside, make sure all of the cartridge metal electrical contacts are clean and try it again. If it still has a problem you should try a new black toner cartridge. If that doesn't change things then you may need to replace the DC controller.

Konica minolta error

I had the same problem and found that one of the toner cartridges must have not been seated properly. I removed the black toner cartridge and re-fitted it. The printer now works fine again with no errors. 17H is a code relating to a fault in the rotation ......... possibly one or more toner cartridges need checking. Use the menu on the printer to turn it to the appropriate position (i.e. engine menu then select replacement of whichever toner you are checking).
Hope this fixes your as well.
