Re: Heater problem

This sounds like a Blend Door problem. The problem is that the blend door in the plenum is stuck in the A/C position and will not reposition to allow heat.
There are two possible issues.

1: The Acuator has snapped off (plastic breaks)

2: The Blend Door is broken (plastic hinge broke)

There are related articles to fix both of these conditions

Heater will not activate until outside temp. is above 40 degrees

If you have a heat pump the compressor is locked out below that temp. If you have a dual fuel - hp/gas, the gas burners should come on as would the electric heaters if you have electric heat as backup.

I have a Lennex heat pump unit which was installed in 2008. Our area (Savannah, GA) has experienced some abnormal cold temps lately. Yesterday, I noticed the outside of the unit had frost on the unit. ...

Heat pumps are the same as an A/C unit only it works in reverse. Instead of blowing cold air inside and hot air outside it blows hot air inside and cold air outside. The heat being blown inside is extracted form the cold air outside. Its called Latent heat Latin for hidden. Believe it or not even though its 20 degrees outside there is still heat in the air. Example if you want to drop the temperature of a freezer from 20 to 10 degrees you have to remove heat .I know your getting unusal weather and that is the problem. Heat pumps can only work no lower then around 20 degrees outside.Heat pumps are never used above the freeze line. With your unusal temperatures thats basically where you are now. Ride it out. When your temps rise a little your be fine. Im in Chicago.

My car heater was not blowing warm air so i changed the thurmastat then took it for a ride the heater was still blowing cold air the car temp went up and blew a hole in my headgasket so i fix the water...

The heater uses water that circulates from two positions on your car engine. One is the inlet hose and the other is the return hose. they are usually about 3/4 hoses clamp to two nipples on the heater that extends through the fire wall. If those hoses are blocked or plugged up, no water can circulate and your blower just passes cold air through the heater core. If the core is blocked up by gunk or rust , it will do the same thing.

You are going to have to test the hose and heater core to see if it is blocked. Find the heater hose connections on your engine, take the clamps loose, Put one hose end in a bucket and adapt your garden hose to the the other end so that you can tell if you have good flow through the hoses and the core.

Blows out cold air at night , its set at 21degres but drops down to 15 degres after 12 pm at night untill about 5am in mornig when it goes back up to 21 degres there are 4 units in the office

Is the unit set on heating? If so, heat pumps or reverse cycle units will drop in efficiency and performance when the outdoor temp drops so this will be the reason why the temp drops so significantly. I would recommend setting the temp higher tha 21 or use another heater.

I take the time to answer your question, so please rate me.
Thankyou Mat

20 year old central a/c heater not working

Check your thermostat and mode selector setting, thermostat setting should be set at warmer and mode selector setting should be at low heat or hight this is applicable for manual unit.
If it is a remote control just set the remote to heat mode.
