Either something is binding the blower wheel up or the motor is bad. The best thing is to take the front of the machine off to access the blower wheel to verify ifanything is indeed binding it.IF not read the next section.
If you can turn the drum and then the dryer starts you have a bad motor. The way the dryer works is when you initially push the start button, electricity is sent to the start winding, or stator, of the motor. This will in turn start the motor turning. From there the stator will drop out of the electrical process and at the same time the run winding, or rotor, will take over and the motor will continie to run. Your stator is damaged, has a burn spot, etc so by you turning the drum, the belt around the drum is moved which is attached to the motor pulley. You basically take the place of the stator. Long story short, you have a bad motor.

Dryer drum doesn't spin

If the motor runs and the drum doesn't turn then most likely the belt is broken.

Ld lg3788w gas dryer drum won't turn

not a good model number, most likely you have a broken belt as long as it starts, heats but the drum doesn't spin,if you get a buzzing sound and it doesn't start you could have something stuck in the blower wheel, the motor is jammed or the motor is bad,you can open the door, push the door switch in,spin the drum with your other hand and have someone push the start button,if it starts you have a bad motor.

Makes a humming noise but doesn't turn

Try this, open the dryer door and hold down the door light switch. Turn on the dryer and press start. When you hear the motor humming, turn the drum clockwise with your hand to see if it will turn. If itruns, you have a bad motor and will need to be replaced. If it doesn't turn, something is jammedinside and you will need to disassemble the unit to find the jam.
Hope this helps.

Ive just installed a new door kit onto my fisher and paykel de45f56a dryer. It has never had a door as it was cracked when purchased so the dryer has never been started. I have now fitted the door however...

yes, double check the switch first. it sounds like the motor is not even moving, since the dryer was never used before sometimes there is a "tab" or locking mechanism to keep the tumbler form moving during shipping.

it could be the extra weight on the motor and the motor is bad,try this, open the door, push the door switch in with one hand and spin the drum with the other hand and have someone push the start button,if it runs and most of the time it does because you're helping it along you need a new motor.one more thing,if the filter is in front, remove the duct that the lint filter slides into and spin the drum,if the blower wheel moves with the drum you have a bad motor,if it doesn't you have something stuck in the blower wheel and it jams up the motor because it's attached to the motor shaft.

The dryer is plugged in and the circuts seem to work however the dryer is making a humming noise but it will not turn on fully.

what do you mean it won't fully turn on?do you mean the motor won't run because usually when it humms you either have a bad motor or something is jammed and stopped the motor from spinning.try this, open the door, with one hand hold the door switch in and with the other hand spin the drum, have someone else push the start button while you do this,if it starts the motor is bad,if you can't spin the drum something could be stuck in the blower wheel or the belt broke and could of jammed up the motor but it sounds like you have a bad motor.let me know what you find and next time send the brand name and model number.
