The first thing that needs to be checked before more parts get damaged is the secondary or control voltage from the transformer. with the system off this should read 25 to 27 volts a.c. on average. low voltage has several possible causes, if you do not have a digital electrical meter and the ability to use it i would suggest a contractor be called. Chattering of controls is an indication of a problem and will create other problems if not corrected

How can you be sure about replacement parts on older RUUD units? I've got a RUUD UHQA 1015T that my home warranty company wants to just replace the coil on...rather than replace the whole unit....

I would ask what the price difference is between replacing the coils and replacing the unit. Then make my decision. If the the unit is 12 years or older, then i would take what they are offering to replace the coils and replace the unit.

Ruud uhqa sill runs when i turn off t stat contactor test good and is not stuckhit breaker and back on and fan stops running goes on when t stat is turned on stays on till i trip breaker again i think it...

Your sentence is hard to understand because there is no punctuation. But, I think you are saying that the Outside unit is still running when the inside unit is off and the Thermostat indicates it should be off. If so, you have a stuck relay outside in the compressor/condenser unit. This is common. The contacts get hot and fuse themselves together. You will have to remove the cover on the unit outside to expose the relay. MAKE SURE THE BREAKER IS OFF. If you house is to code there will be a disconnect box on the wall just above the AC unit outside. PULL THE DISCONNECT> then use a flat head screw driver and slight pry the contacts apart. If they are fused very tight you may need to replace the relay. If they break free put every thing back together and you're done. If you this happens again soon you will need to replace relay.

How many tons is the Rudd Model UHQA-0818b air handling unit.

Of the info I could find online, this would be either a 1.5 or 2 ton air handler. This information was obtained from the website below. Hope this helps

I have a 1f89-211 model thermostat. it's stuck on heat it won't turn to cool or even off. i have to turn the heat off from the breaker box. i only use the about five or six times a year. i live in florida...

I will try to help you based on the limited information in front of me.
The first thing I want you to do, is try to reset the thermostat. Take the face off of the thermostat. The reset button is located just below the Fan button. Here is a link to your thermostat's instructions to help you. http://www.apollohomecomfort.com/residential/manuals/digi_heat_thermostat.pdf

If this does not work and your unit is a heat pump system, then we need to verify whether or not the condensing unit (outdoor unit aka heat pump) is running. If your air handler is easy to reach in a closet, you can easily check this by placing your hand on the copper pipe with the black insulation on it. If it is over 100degF, the unit is running. If it is room temperature, the unit is most likely not running. If it is under 50degF it is most likely running in air conditioning mode.
If the outdoor unit is running when you have the thermostat "OFF", you most likely have a wiring problem that will need to be addressed by a trained service technician. If it seems only the indoor unit is running and heating, I want you to try and disconnect the wires at W2 and/or E on your thermostat. Tape the ends with electrical tape to prevent them from "shorting" agains something. See if the unit shuts off after approx 2 minutes. If it does, replace your thermostat. If the unit does not shut off after two minutes with these wires loose from the thermostat then you most likely have a stuck heating sequencer (aka heat relay) in the air handler. This is the relay for the electric strip heaters. For this I recommend a qualified service technician.

Please let me know how your tests worked out for you. I'll be looking for your reply. Without being there with toolbox and meter in hand, I hope you find this information very helpful in guiding you in the right direction for determining the problem with your system. :-)

I have inrertherm air condition with heatstreeps. model p3ra-048k.the blower and heat is "on"when mainbracker is "on" and thermostat wires are not connected

It sounds like a stuck Heat Sequencer (aka Heat Relay). The heat sequencer is wired so to run the blower and the heat strips simutaneously. If the Heat Sequencer contacts "stick" closed, the heat and fan will run non-stop as long as the main supply voltage is fed to the unit. It will need to be replaced. When you replace it, you will want to use some masking tape to mark every wire with a different code and write down where each wire was attached. This will save you alot of frustration later. If you have a cell phone with a camera, you can take a picture with the marked wires still on the relay. I'm including a link to a video that is showing different types of heating sequencers/relays that might help you to identify and troubleshoot your part.

I hope you found this information helpful to you. Good Luck in your endeavor! :-)

RUUD Central Air/Heat Pump

you may have lost your refrigerant and the unit is shut off on low pressure.

You can check the unit's charge by turning on the indoor fan and pushing the ourtdoor contactor down(the relay with heavy wires going in). With the unit runnig for a couple minuits does the large copper line coming into the outdoor unit from the indoor coil get cold to the touch?
If not you have lost your refrigerant

RUUD heat pump system does not cool properly.

With a heat pump system there are always going to be a back up heat strip inside the Air Handler.

If you detect a faint humming in the Condenser call your local service company and ask them to come and replace your capacitor in the condenser. The humming is from the contactor engaging but not being able to start the compressor due to not having the required Microfarads to start it.

Let me know if this helps

Themostat problem no power

Your R terminal in your air-handler is the 24v power that goes to the tstat. Look at the air-handler and match the color wire. ALL tstats have a power wire going to them. If you aren't getting power, you probably have a break somewhere in the wiring close to the thermostat you are replacing.
