Memory card maximum size

Your camera only can use SD cards. The SDHC is a newer generation of SD cards, that need a different protocol you access the files. The newest version is the SDXC version.
SD cards never exceed 4 Gbyte. The SDHC never are bigger than 32 GD and the SDXC are over 32 GByte.
When you try to buy a SD card, the biggest you will find will be 2 GByte. I own 2 SD cards that have 4 GByte, but even I can't find them on the net any more.
The cards are from Platinum. But I even can't guaranty you the 4Gbyte will work in your camera.

Some firms used to bring out new firmware, as soon as the SDHC cards came out. I succeeded to update my TomTom to SDHC and the old thing now even accepts 16 GByte cards. But Canon did not offer an upgrade for the V550, so you stay stuck to the normal SD cards.

I am trying a new SDHC memory card in our Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera and it says memory card error, any information would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Diana F.

Your fix is a very simple one. Your camera is only compatible with SD cards, and you're trying to use it with an SDHC card.

SDHC is a later technical development of the SD to allow larger capacity. Your camera was designed and made when SDHC development was still just a vague idea for the future. 512MB was all that your camera was guaranteed to work with as they were the largest capacity cards then available. You may wish to look at the user manual for yourself, page 170.

SD cards are available up to 4GB in theory, but in practice almost no SD device can go above 2GB, According to the MyMemory website your camera will accept 2GB SD cards (see details), but from experience even if it works you may find that the camera operation becomes very sluggish when the card gets more than half full. You are also likely to find that at the maximum capacity your camera is very choosy about which brands it will work with reliably. Staying at or below 1GB should ensure the maximum usability.

There is no way to update your camera to the newer standard as the SDHC card requires different internal hardware and firmware.

Every time I put in a new memory card (this time I put in a 2gb Sandisk memory card) in this camera it always shuts off and I have to take out the batteries to get it working? What's wrong and what should...

My 33LF had the same problem with a 1gb Memory Card. I have replaced it with a 512mb card and it seems to be working perfectly. I was told that the capacity of the 1gb card exceeds the capacity of the camera.

Hi i have an finepixa350 digital camara , i had lost the xd picture card the came with it so i got an Olympus xd m+ 2bg card and it keeps coming back "card error" help!

Your problem is that you have purchased an incompatible memory card.

The largest capacity xD card which your camera can use is 1GB, but it works better with a maximum of 512MB as 1GB can make the camera operations a little sluggish.

There are no updates to enable your camera to use the latest xD cards as the limitation is a hardware issue due to evolving technology.

You therefore only have two fixes: replace the xD card with a maximum 1GB capacity (but preferably 512MB), or replace your camera with one of the recent models which accepts the 2GB xD card.

I hope that I have provided you with a clear explanation and practical options to fix your problem. Please take a moment to rate the free answer I have provided for you and any testimonial which you might wish to add is always welcome!

Z3 will not accept a 2g card

The Dimage Z3 accept SD cards up to 1GB (Minolta says 512 Mb, and sold it with 16Mb). This camera is 4MP , and uses less memory on card, therefore a 512MB card will be enough for it.

Memory card

Hi!

20cc284.jpg

Maximum memory size for your camera is 256MB (according to the manual). However, some users claim that the camera can support up to 512MB. To be safe, just use a 256MB card.

Good luck and have a nice day!

Memory Card Locked

You have raised a valid point if the camera has a reading problem then it would have problems reading all cards But it read the original OK? I think this is best addressed to Canon Support it seems that there is a problem that may only be resolved by them perhaps exchanging the camera for another
