I've used this router for one year, and up until this week when I room mate was unable to log on to the wireless.
I uninstalled the Linksys software and use the CD I got with the router. The system was unable to detect the ethern net cable and as a result unable to connect to router.
I have access to internet via my cable.
Would like some assistance in getting the software need to conncet the router to my lap top and then my roommates wireless PC
Since you have Internet connectivity through the router using a direct connection to the router, then you just need to access the router's setup page and re-configure wireless.
But first, check if the wireless light is on in the router.
Then, using a computer that is wired to the router, launch IE and type 192.168.1.1 on the address field.
It will then ask for the password. By default it is admin. Just click ok and it will lead you to the setup page of the router.
Then, on the menu click Wireless. Look for wireless network name or SSID. That is the name of your wireless network. By default it is set to "linksys". You may change it to a uniqune name and then save the settings.
Then, if you want to enable security in your Wireless network, click on Wireless Security.
Set security mode to WPA Personal and create your network key. It should be atleast 8 characters.

We have a 3000 sq ft split level house, so range is critical (could we extend range with antennas, access points)?
Stability and reliability are also critical
We use a comcast cable modem
Must support mixed environment - 2 Macs connecting wirelessly, 2 PCs (1 with a wired connection)
We all want to be able to share a printer (which will connect to router with a wired connection)
Network attached storage, media streaming - I'm not worried about these now, looking for basic connectivity. Though would be great if I could grow into this in the future...

What port number is associated with the printer port? I am trying to use the USR5461 router with Windows 7. I've configured a standard TCP /IP port using the router's default name of 192.168.2.1:1631/printers/My_Printer. Windows offers a default port number of 9100, but trying to print using the combination of this name and number does not work--no data is received at the printer at all. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
