Most of the time in my experience when that happens the amp usually has a fried circuit . make sure no wires are touching or grounding out. Also make sure both the 12 volt constant and remote both have power still. And a good, short ground is a vital key to a proper audio system.

20-Volt DC Power Supply instead of 12-Volt amp

Here's a few things that come to mind. An auto charging system will operate normally from about 11 Volts to about 14.5 Volts, depending on what is operating (lights, blower, etc), and whether the vehicle is at idle or not. Most car amps will operate from about 10.5 to 16.5 Volts, and outside that range, they will probably shut down.
Another consideration is your 20 volt power supply. You didn't mention if it is a DC power supply, but it needs to be. The other factor is its output, meaning its amperage rating. I'm figuring it will need to put about 5 amps, at the least, for the Sony to put out some watts. I think the line fuses of the Sony are rated @ 25 amps each.
I don't like this type of situation, because I want to say 'try it and see what happens" and I want to say 'don't do it, something may blow".
If you decide to try the 20Volt power supply, maybe if you put smaller rated fuses (say 10 amp) in the Sony amp, they will act as a fail safe. Good luck!

Safe light boston gt 20 amp

First, check the output functions of your radio.

Then test the power lead for 12+ volts and ground at the amp, also be sure the "turn-on/remote power" lead from the radio is supplying 12+ volts when the radio is turned on.
Good luck...

Amp is shutting off after 10 min of driving!! please help!!

Does it happen at all volume levels?
What is the gain setting on the sub amp?
Have you checked for 12V @ remote turn on after problem occurs?
Sounds as if the remote turn on relay inside the amplifier is losing signal, or has become damaged. If the protection light does not light up, the problem is not thermal, shorting, or high/low voltage.
The amplifier is in need of repair. This is not an end-user fix. Looking at about $50 to repair.

Thanks for using FixYa- a FixYa rating is appreciated!!

Moisture in amp while on, caused a small pop, then no sound outpu

check the fuse between the battery and the amp. (not the fuse in the back of the amp).
if that doesn't work then something on the inside of the amp is fried.

If the fuse blows only after the remote voltage is applied, the output transistors have likely failed. Never use a fuse larger than the one recommended by the manufacturer. It can lead to more extensive damage (including damage to the circuit board) which will make the amp much more expensive to repair.
