I go to the device manager and the system controlers and the root hubs all show that they are working properly but they do not show that I have plugged in anything.

if you have any working device connected to the system try to connect the ipod or the camera in that port and see if that gets detected ... if no than try install the drivers again with the motherboard cd and if that doesnt work try to reload windows and if still that doesnt work last option is to update the firmware of the motherboard that is the bios ... but you need to be carefull about tha... one mistake and you loose the motherboard and than follow the instrucctions on the readme file which you will get with the firmware if that doesnt work that means mortherboard gone bad you can add pci cards which will have usb ports ... or you can change the motherboard

First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
Click "Start" button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the "Search" bar and press "Enter". Click "Continue" if necessary.
In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
