Pictures on my Canon Pixma iP5000 are now printing all green! The magenta tank had been empty and I replaced it, but there has been no improvement.

Green ignorance. I could never find the print utility on my Mac but at last I found how to perform a nozzle clean without using the computer. Press the resume button on the pritner until the power light flashes once - and presto, it cleans the nozzle and the problem was solved.

Canon PIXMA IP5000 The printer was fine, until I replaced an empty colour cartridge (magenta) since then what shout be blue is pink and green is yellow.

One of the he cartridges is evidently defective.
Replace all cartridges with original ones.
After replacing, perform a clean head procedure from printer utilities. Do this several times.
That should fix the problem.

If that does not fix the problem, than you have a faulty print head.

I have tried deep cleaning several times on my Pixma iP5000 but can still not get the blue and magenta colours. Thr printer has been stand still for approx 4 years. Black and yellow works fine.

You need to replace the print head to fix the problem. You can't let ink printers sit for years. Especially when the print head is a part of the printer and not the cartridge.

Empty the overflo ink tank on a canon ip5000 printer

The waste ink absorbers on a Canon are pads that are under the print engine and cover the whole bottom. It is a major dissasembly where the covers come off, cables and plugs un plugged, power supply removed, and then you need a shop to reset the counters.

Canon Pixma IP5000 wont print cyan or magenta

Think you need to clean the sponge that the ink cartridges sit on in the head tray they are probably blocked with dry ink. You can remove the print head and tray by lifting the lever and gently lifting it out..... go here
to see how to carefully clean it with compressed air. I had to do this too.

Every picture has a green tint

The magenta ink is not working, clean your print head through the software in your preferences and see what happens, If your pictures show no sign of improvement, clean a second time. If still no improvement, than either your magenta ink is empty or faulty or the print head is faulty. As it is a HP, both the head and cartridge are one in the same, so replace the colour cartridge and you should fins your pictures will be perfect again.
