Hi, my laptop Tectra 2800 needs a new hard disk, never changed one on a laptop before, Anyone know what the spec is? And are they as straightforward to change in a laptop as a desktop...?
Many Thanks for any advice.......
Looks like your laptop is using a notebook IDE drive. You can go to any electronics store and purchase a new one, or try www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com and order one online. As for swapping it out, if you flip the laptop over, you should see an picture next to a screw hole that looks like 3 circles in a vertical cylinder. Unscrew all of those screws with that symbol and lift up the cover. There's your hard drive. You probably have to remove the cradle the old hard drive is in and put the new one in it before installing.

Hello qtnick, the closest date that is recorded is 2001, this seem to be when the "Tecra Series" was being put into production, I've researched many references, but there wasn't a pinpoint date on any specify model. There is mostly the focusing on the "Newer Models ie: Tecra 9 the predecessor of previous models, and the "Newest" release Tecra 11. So most models were put in to production after 2001. Thanks for your question, paul7of 9
This is an old laptop and it wasn't design for Vista and windows & .., but you can try to install it by the device itself...So, either identify the device (wifi card name ) by the properties in the device manager ..or use this program to do that and usually offers links for drivers..if they are available .. if not...you will have to see if there is any driver available by the wifi card itself ..Otherwise if you need this operation system and the wireless feature you will have to change the card with one from another model that has drivers... This is the program I mentioned...Its called EVEREST and will analize and identify all about you computer ..devices by factory name and serial ...and will also give options for driver location on the bottom of the page on each device ..if available .. http://www.mediafire.com/?mezeoyv1z41
quick solution is to use external USB key board to use it again, if the unit is
experiencing a slow motion or you will often hung like a laptop can damage the
windows and from the need to new installs in short windows re-formatted, good
luck and have a nice day.
