Padlock icon

Many monitors have an on-screen display lock (the padlock icon) that seems to get stuck.
Various suggestions in the links below - the one that seems to work most often is to hold the monitor's menu button down for 15-20 seconds to get the screen menu, then either try unlocking the OSD (On Screen Display) or do a factory reset on the monitor.

Different monitors have slightly different menus, but if it's a Dell monitor you can find the manual below (under Display):

How do you fix color on an hp 1730 monitor

When you get the greenish or bluish tint on your screen, that means the color has gone out on your television. I have been through it two times. Both times the TV was a good quality television. To replace it would be more than $1200. Both times I had my set repaired by a professional. I instructed him to "Not Use" identical replacement parts. I made it a point to insist that the transistors be replaced with higher quality transistors.

Now, I still have both televisions, and I think they are better than they were when I bought them. One has been going 4 years since the repair.

Special Note: Both televisions had the screen/color fail right after the one year warranty went out. I always buy extended warranty now for at least 2 years. If something is going to go wrong, I think it is going to happen within three years.

I have been right, and my warranty coverage paid for the repairs. Either way, I think this plan is better than taking the same risk with another new television set.

The technician told me that companies are using cheap electronics to keep the price down. So if they fail, I just put better parts back into the set.

Good Luck

I have a blue and white padlock keeps showing up in the middle of my screen. Blinks on and off for a while then disappears, then comes back. On and on, very irritating.

It sounds like the DELL Capslock indicator. It is a light blue square with a lock on it and a capitol A under the hasp. You may have a bad keyboard key. switch out keyboards and see what happens.
Good luck,
James.

How do i get rid of the blue padlock on middle of monitor

When the icon is in the unlock position, hold down the Menu key (the far left button in the lower right hand corner) on your monitor. This should bring up the menu. From there, you can reset the factory settings.

Padlock appears on screen

I have this monitor, got it used at the goodwill, padlock problem and the control buttons (eccept for power) did not work. I tried every solution posted with no success. Then I got brave, I dove into the problem. 1) remove base, four phillips head screws. 2) remove the back, five phillips head screws. one in each corner and one behind the base mount, thus the need to remove the base. 3) carefully pry off the back, it snaps on, so take your time. I found a butter knife to be very helpfull. 4) The buttons are sodered to an electrical board whitch is snapped into place so carefully pry up from one side, again I used a butter knife. The wires are sodered to the board, they do not unplug. 5) Using a can of air, blow into each button and trying to clean out the inside them. I'm sure they should probably be replaced but we do what we can. 6) Put it all back together. 7) plug it in and connect it to computer. start working the buttons, at first I thought it was a lost cause but after about a minute I was able to get into the menue, scroll down using the arrow buttons and turn the lock off. A $300 monitor for 40 bucks. I hope this message gets to you before you give up. GOOD LUCK, GMAN8773
