Is there anything we can do to try & fix this ourselves? Or are we going to have to buy a new freezer? Could it be something simple, like removing everything & defrosting the freezer? Help!

- Thank you! I don't know why it's working now, but last night I turned the temp control dial to the middle & pushed the "flash defrost" (or something like that) button and left it on for a few minutes. This morning the alarm was off & I just checked again & it's still off. So I don't know, but hopefully it's okay now.
Check to see that the temp control is working (turning on the compressor). You also can have a bad start device on the compressor so it's not turning on reliably. Worst case is there is a leak and the refrigerant has leaked out and no longer cooling. If you can hear/feel the compressor running (should be warm/hot to touch) and you have no cooling then you have that sealed system problem (no refrigerant gas left)

I've been using a chest freezer as a frig running it with a Johnson Controls external thermostat. It's been working great staying at a constant 35-40 degrees fahrenheit. The past month it's started to warm up inside. The motor is running, I hear fluid in the walls of the unit. The top section started to get frosty while the rest of the unit would remain fairly warm. This unit has a flash defrost that I initiated. The front internal walls of the unit got very hot while the back was only moderately warm. I unplugged it and let it sit overnight. I plugged it in the morning and let it run all day. The unit was only moderately cool after 10 hours. The thermostat is set on 7 (max). I've adjusted it off and max several times. I hear the unit running the whole time. When I adjust it to 7 after turning it off I hear something else energize for a few seconds and then shut off.
This happened once.
Any assistance with this is greatly appreciated. My kegs are getting warm.
Best regards,
Ross
