Question about GPS

Open Question

Isubmitted a question for GPS repair, on 12/02/08. I also paid to my account $15.00. I have not recieved a solution or any answer to my problem question. How much longer must I wait, which I am willing to do if the time is reasonable. Arthur Lederle

    E-mail ID # 40 from FixYa requested me to resubmit my question. I have a Garmin iQue 3600 GPS/PDA unit that is in a hard 'locked up' stage. Because of a previous problem, (unit went into a 3 screen loop only when it was in GPS map mode'). All other functions worked ok, until I opened the antenna to start the GPS. Since this was a 'constant loop', I tried to update the unit's software. I downloaded Release 6 from Garmin along with their instructions on installing the upgrade. All went well until I neared the end of the instructions. I was requested to do a 'soft reset', which I did. The unit would then turn off for a few seconds, then turn on again displaying the 'PalmPowered' screen, which it did. I was then told to follow the instructions on the next screen. Before I could do anything, a screen containing a 'reset' button in it came up. I tried to do the reset by taping the reset button in that screen, but nothing happened. I did a 'soft reset ' again, but the same sequence of screens followed. OF MORE CONCERN TO ME AT THIS TIME, IS THAT I CANNOT TURN THE UNIT OFF.

    Must I let the battery run down, or is there a way to get out of the 'hard freeze'? Because of this lockup, I cannot get to any of the PDA functions, making the unit useless. I went tnto a little more detail for this SECOND description of the problem.

You need to goto garmin web site.
register your device and hook it upto your computer.
You can download updates for your gps directly some paid like maps other free like firmware, voices etc.

The GPS was working then then just out of the blue

Third Unit Burnt Out


If it burned out and this is the 3rd time, it is possible something you are doing to have it occur.
Perhaps not knowingly so, I must add.
Reasons that are common:
You are using the wrong charger unit
You are overcharging the unit ( leaving it on beyond 10 hours)
You are connecting the unit before starting the car engine, sure fire way of killing many GPS units by spiking the mother board. Even the fused end does not always protect the GPS, the current is just slightly lower than the fuse value but sufficient to damage the SIIRF chip or even the power circuit. TT are notorius for burnouts as they are cheaply made. See how many TT's on this forum have the same problem. Most of my time is spent answering Q's on this brand. Get an Altina if you want a better GPS type in Marbella Australia and look at their units, better value for the money
The cost of repair is about 60% of what you paid for the whole unit unless TT have sympathy ( which I doubt)

Cracked screen


Garmin has an excellent repair program. Go to http://www.garmin.com. Click on the Support Tab and you will be presented with a menu. Select Register Product from that page. You will next be asked to create a Garmin account. After you create an account you can then get to the repair page. They will repair you GPS for a reasonable Flat Rate regardless what is wrong with the GPS. Hope this helps you. Plus by registering you will get a free map update one time. Do not do this update until you get your GPS back.

Our Nuvi 200w was dropped and the screen is cracked. Suggestions and where to send it for repair .. thanks


i don`t know how true this is the guy at the source
told my wife that even if it get`s repaired under warranty if you live in Canada you have to send it to the U S for repairs when they ship it back you
are charged custom fees depending on how much
you paid for it probably not worth it, if you paid for
it with your gold mc card you are covered for damages good luck

my gps 4250 would show the blue magellan screen (sometimes the map) the it would completely crash! I paid 500 bucks 4 this ****- plz give me some answers!!!!

Navman icn510 gps reciever problem


How long are you waiting and are you moving while it is trying to acquire signal? These receivers are using older circuitry that may take up to 20 minutes to first acquire a signal from a cold start. If you are moving it may take longer!!! The good news is that after you have initially acquired a location, if you turn the unit off it will only take a minute or so to reacquire after it has "warmed" up.
