Question about Canon imageCLASS D761 Copier

9 Answers

Paper jamb the paper is jambed at the exit area. we tried pulling the paper out slowly put it tore now we cant get our hands on it from either side . what do you recommend I have a paper caught just as it was coming out of the copier. I could see it catch and get sucked in. It is right at the exit. I have removed the toner cartridge, but still cannot get to the location where it is caught. I need to know how to access the area so the paper can be removed. I am reasonable competent to disassemble the necessary parts to reach the paper jam, but need to know the sequence to get there.

Removing the back cover gave me access to the circuit boards, but not the paper jam. Somehow I need to get below the auto doc feed which slides part way to remove a jam in the paper feeder, but my paper is at the exit. Does the auto doc feeder have a release that will allow access?

  • secreterry Dec 05, 2008

There is no door at the back, and turning it off and on again just sets of the jam alarm

  • secreterry Dec 05, 2008

OK. How do I get to the fuser?

If you follow this link you can purchase the service manual for this printer which will give all the necessary step by step instructions. If you need further assistance let me know. You can also have a computer repair professional service the printer as well though that would be much more costly then acquiring the manual and doing it yourself. The problem you have is the need to get the machine open enough to access the paper path. I can guess you are not that proficient or qualified and/or experienced. A tech would be. In the paper path are sensors that engage when paper is present and this causes the paper jam error and stops the paper drive so nothing is damaged.

What puzzles me is that there isn't a provision for access and the ability to manually turn the rollers and clear the jam.

The only thing I can think of doing is what another tech (moe) at fixyourownprinte.com uses to reset a D680 printer. Thanks moe if this works out.

Even though this is for the D600 series is may also work for you or put you into a maintenance menu that will allow you to clear the jam. In your case go to Copy Function and see what options. Often, by having a start such as this you may be able to find the glory button on your own. To bad there isn't a printer guru nearby. Its a shame how much the call out fees are to come do an easy repair like this. The purpose of the stoppage is to prevent damage to sensors, as those will freeze your machine when broken and then you have no chioce but to have a Canon Authorized tech come by.

I've often found that really good car mechanics can figure out things like this, gaining access to the inside paper path of your printer. Perhaps you know one of these kinds of people, a woman or a man who is a whiz mechanically.

Best of luck and before you refuse this post, would you comment on your findings? Perhaps with more to go on I can give you more assistance. Once, you refuse a reply from us you cannot go back and review.

most copier has a tight roller that when pull out the jam paper in bare hands it only tear the jump papers.

that they provide a lever, for the user to pull the jump papers and you see it, in parallel of the roller where jump paper is. mostly it is in diferrent color green or yellow or gray. with an arrow up and down just crank it and follow the direction of the arrow to pull out the jump paper.

if you already tear the paper and mostly in the exit area. you can forced the paper to pull out.by a plier but please don't up to the roller. it will damaged the roller.

but if tis doesnt fix then you have to replace the fusing unit on that machine, when it jams inthe fuser like that the fusing unit is going bad. the fusing units range from: $200.00 to $295.00 plus service call.. it always comes down to replacing the fusing unit, even if you get the paper out it will jam again.

  • AbdulRahiman S Dec 05, 2008

Have you tried to run copies from both paper trays? Will it jam in the same spot with both trays? If one works, but the other jams, it may be as simple as making sure the paper tray is set to the correct paper size? Is it set up in the paper tray as LTR, but the tray is saying LTR-R on the display. If so just change the paper size knob to the correct size. Also, if it stops in the same spot with all of the trays, look for something blocking it. Also, try to cheat the side door and make sure everthing is turning correctly..

You need to loosen the fuser enough to be able to reach the paper.
You need to remove all the covers and the front door assembly then you need to remove the plastic cover over the fuser then the metal plate under the plastic cover then try to get the fuser out.

Have you tried simply to turn the printer on and off, in most models the paper should be ejected automatically, you can also try feeding some paper thru it.

if that doesn't help and you need to take it apart a service manual would be the best choice http://tech-manuals.net/

Canon pixma mp495 rear tray rollers only pulls paper in on one side then it jams

When the paper does not feed straight, dirty or sticky rollers can cause it to jamb or crinkle, also failure to remove all traces of paper from a previous paper jamb will cause further paper jambs.
Check for tiny pieces of at the edges of the rollers, and remove these pieces of paper. The rollers may be dirty or sticky and causes the paper to not feed straight.
Try cleaning the rollers with methylated spirits.

Small bits of paper lodged near the gears at the back of the rollers are difficult to see and remove. This causes the paper to jamb and crumble.
You most likely need to dismantle the printer to find the bits of paper.
When you pull paper from a fresh jamb out of the printer, do it slowly and avoid tearing the paper, if you do make sure you have all the pieces of paper.

1 Answer

Printer starts to grab paper then paper jambs.

Hi, Follow these steps:- 1.Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred. 2.Turn off the printer. 3.Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper. 4.Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge. 5.If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it. 6.If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam. 7.If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. 8.Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on. 9.If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
