I'm having the same problem with my Palm Tungsten E unit. I worked great for months and then all of a sudden I can't get it to stay shut off. On Monday I'm going to try and contact Palm and see what they say. If I have any luck, I'll update this comment.

I recalled a problem a few years ago with my PDA and the solution (from Palm while still under warranty) was to do a HARD RESET of the unit.

Please note that a hard reset will wipe clean all memos and other information stored in your PDA. Make sure you HOTSYC your PDA before doing a hard reset. It will reset the unit back to its original factory setting. The way to accomplish this is by holding down the on/off switch while pressing the reset button on the back of your PDA. It will respond back by asking if you really want to reset (yes or no).

I did this and now I can turn off my PDA without worrying about it coming back on. Now all I have to do is figure out what in the old config (that's now backed up on the desktop backup) is freaking out the PDA and causing it to not turn off. Chances are it's a software that was recently added.

Hope this helps!

Good Luck and Happy New Year!

PALM WILL NOT TURN OFF

Hold the power button until it shuts off. Holding the power button down for a long time constitutes a "hard shutdown" and most of todays gadgets do shut down by actions such as this.

If not, then wait until it dies then recharge it. If you don't want to wait, carefully take out the batteries then put them back in. After you turn it on again it should be fine.

It will not turn on. It is 3 yrs old.

If it is not turning on at all then more then likely the battery is dead. Try plugging it into the charger and leaving it for over night. Then try turning it on. If that doesn't work you may need a new battery. I would not recommend doing this yourself s it involves some soldering. I had a friend of mine change my battery and it didn't quite work right after that. I am also including a link for the free chat feature that palm has. I have used it several times and have always had very good results. Best wishes.

At the bottom of this page it says Palm Chat. Click on the chat now and follow the online prompts.

My Tungsten E Pocket PC shuts itself off as soon as the software starts to open. I performed a hard reset, and it will stay on until I answer the ''Erase all data'' question. I don't think it is the...

Hi Joni,

Thank you for your response. My wife had the same as yours ... she had the aux power supply as well. Eventually, hers would not run at all without the aux battery and finally, that battery went as well.

I called the company and they said it was probably the battery and it was not repairable at the consumer level, but they would be glad to do it for a fee of about $125.00 + shipping.

We abandoned all hope and she bought a 'smart phone'. When her Tungsten E entered this "status" it became fair game for me to investigate. I removed the back (itty ***** "Torx" "screw driver" required. The little motor that vibrates the device fell out immediately. I found the battery is a soft battery and it was plugged in with a simple plug. I found the battery for about $20.00. Having satisfied my courisity, I gave the whole thing to my brother who put it back together and he is still using it.

I hope this comments encourages you. Thanks for posting your question on FixYa.com

Moto q does not stay charged lng at all

Your battery is most likely shot and needs replaced. Batteries build up a "charge life" and if they're not run down and recharged regularly, and if the phone isn't turned off for a short period of time each day to let the battery sort of "catch up," they wear out.

This is a common problem with the Tungsten line, You can try doing a hard reset. This worked for my E2. If that doesn't work, the battery must be removed for a few hours. Although it still may not work after the battery removal.

** To preform a hard reset, hold down the power button, and push the reset button on the back of the unit. The top of your stylus unscrews to expose a "plastic pin" for this purpose. Keep holding down the reset button while the unit reboots. You should see a palm screen displayed while it restarts, let go of the power button and follow the instructions. Pressing up on the pad ring should erase all data.

Palm Tungsten E2 won't work after power cord is removed.

The traditional steps for resetting charging problems are:
1) press reset /while/ the power cord is plugged in
2) unplugging the battery for about 30 seconds, then plugging it back in

You have done #2, but I do not know if you have done #1. Try it, then try to recharge again. If that fails then you probably need a new battery. I have found them on eBay before.
