This laptop will start and seem to function properly but the monitor is really really dark. I can see that the computer is working, but I cannot seem to get the screen to brighten. I mean REALLY dark.
I would appreciate any input.

Re: Fujitsu Lifebook C2330 Monitor dark
Your LCD backlight is not working. It is fixable but it is not a repair I would recommend to the typical user. The reason is that you have to disassemble a fairly good portion of the laptop to access the light source and/or the electrical components that control it. If you have excellent attention to detail, patience, experience with the disassembly and handling of electronics and the tools then give it a try. It is also important to also realize that by doing it yourself you risk the real possibility of damaging your laptop beyond economic repair then it may also be worth a try.
Otherwise I would strongly suggest you take your laptop to the local authorized repair shop.

Could be a dead screen, use your vga, hdmi or svideo port to an external monitor or tv, if you get video there, then your laptop is still working and it is your screen. Check to see if you see any pictures on your screen but it would show in really really dark picture... if that is the case it is your screen backlit bulb that gone bad and the screen will need to be replaced. If nothing appears on your screen but you get picture to a external monitor via s-video, hdmi or the vga port then it could be that you have a loose cable connection or bad wireing somewhere between your latop base and the screen. If nothing at all appears on your screen or the external monitor source then you have a promblem with your laptop.... and those promblem can be in a wide range of trying to seek out the defective part.
Hook up an external monitor to the video output on the back of the laptop to see if the problem clears up, if it does you have screen issues on the laptop. If the same problem persists it is a Video Graphics Card problem on the motherboard.
Sounds like you back light or LCD inverter is going out, If you don't hear a whine then it is just the LCD screen, if you hear that whine then it is the inverter. An inverter will run 40-60 dolloars as opposed to and LCD screen which usually start around 100 and go up...
Hope this helps, if so please rate my solution accordingly.
Since it seems as though you dont move it very much you might be able to hook an external monitor up to it and using the Fn+F5 button swap it to use the external monitor untill you can get it repaired.
ih some older lap tops have a wheel on the side of the screen that enables you to adjust the screens light or darkness. please excuse me if I am stating the obvious but I am not totally familiar with this model
as for the hissing this sounds like the fan needs cleaning as it is running under speed and causing the system to slightly over heat which is why the light keeps flashing..
In reply to your question with regard to can it be fixed is it worth it. if it was mine I would take it apart and clean the fan. In your case you should take it to a small out let to get it checked over. Hope this helps
