The light is on that it is getting power, but it will not turn on.

Unplugged the ac power and re-plugged in again.

Thanks for the help there is a reset button at the base of the unit.

That did the trick and it is working again.

Do you have it plugged into a power source?

I would try an alternate plug spot, or using your AC power if you have a plug for it.

If that doesn't work, let me know.

Okay, there is one alternative solution (that I know of, my experience with GPS systems is limited), I had to use this on a family's GPS. If you don't have a warranty on it, you can remove the back plate, and disconnect the battery, that is how I got theirs to work.

For the most part, GPS system don't malfunction unless there's an underlying problem. It might have tried to update itself and failed the install, thereby crashing the operating system, or a wire can be loose.

I attached my tomtom 920 to my computer and connected to the tomtom website for updates. After a lenghty period of downloading programs a message popped up that it had been updated. I updated all settings...

Hmm
Sounds like the updates had not quite finished.

Did you back up before ?
If so do a restore and try again.

It has to be one of two things: bad battery or your charging circuit does not work correctly to charge the battery. We see this all the time. www.nabilselectronics.com

My tomtom 920 simply won't turn on, I used it yesterday and it was fine, though it did warn me that the battery is very low. I have charged it for 1hr but it still won't come on. What could be the problem...

The batery is finished, even if you plug it in the cigar lighter and the green light goes on, your TOMTOM will still not work when the batery is dead..get one real cheap on ebay.
Good luck

Are you INDOORS? GPS do not work indoors. You need to be OUTSIDE.

Also, install TomTom Home in your computer and plug your tomtom to your computer via a USB cable. Update your TomTom and try again

My tomtom 920 keeps acting like it is shorting out.

If its still under warranty, get it repaired.. it sounds like hardware problem. Of course, you'll need to contact TT for repair options.

Tomtom Go 920 failure

The power light only shows that power is getting to the TomTom. It proves nothing else and doesn't even confirm that the internal battery is charging. If you have tried a reset ( by inserting a paper clip into the reset hole at base of your TomTom and that hasn't worked then it's likely you have blown internal components . Usually caused by faulty charger. I hope the reset works ... good luck

Device not recognized by computer

Lots of folks having this problem with many different TomTom Models, mine was with a GO630.

Do a "reset" on the unit, use a paperclip or somesuch and hold the reset button on your TomTom in for about 5 seconds, and the unit will rrset and will be recognized by your computer.

I think it has to do with hooking up your unit via the usb cable to the computer. I got one from Radio Shack and it worked fine for a day, drove with it and shut it on and off a couple of times. Then I hooked it up to my emachine computer, and all I got was a white screen. Took it back got another one, drove with it, turned it on and off a couple of times, worked fine. Then I hooked it up to my computer, and again the same white screen until I reset it. I noticed all these posts are in the last few days, so I would say it is a bad batch of units. I purchased one for my wife 3 weeks ago and no such problem.
