Question about Toshiba 62HM95 62" HDTV

1 Answer

480i is displayed on the 62HM95 even when I play my Sony BluRay

I have my Sony bluray hooked up via HDMI and when I hit display on the TV, it reads 480i. But when I watch Directv on my HD DVR, it will display sometimes 1080i. How can I set this to read this resolution all the time? I would think that with the HDMI and the BluRay, it would process the 1080 and display it on the bottom left corner

I called toshiba (the television manufacturer) and they told me that the tv recognized the devices and then adjusts to the resolution according to the device of where its receiving the signal (HDMI).In this case my blu ray was not set to the 1080i resolution. Yesterday I set it up and BAM there it was.

Check the connections for firmness. If the converter works properly, there shouldn't be any problem other than this.

Connect the blu-ray player into the HDMI port that currently has sky on it. Does it work then? if so the port you were using has failed. If not the blu ray player has failed.

HDCP is causing the trouble You experience. Try using other video input connection for same set. If it works fine that way, the problem is that the rights protection (HDCP) is acting as "police" to prevent copying or reproduce unauthorized content. If only the HDMI is connected (disconnect all other inputs/outputs) on some sets, could be work fine.

I have a tv model # WS-65315. I would like to know if I can hook up a Blueray player and still get HDMI quality?

No, your tv is strictly a Standard Definition one. Even it can receive a HD signal, it is downscaled internally to SD so the image would look exactly like from a low quality dvd player (that's because the internal converter is a cheap one) For best image quality use the converter from the BluRay and the Component connectors.

480i is displayed on the tv even when I play my Sony BluRay

You have to go into the blueray player menu and select the type of output. And, yes the display on the TV will automatically indicate the type signal it receives from the source.
