Question about Acer Aspire 5500 5570-2609 Laptop
I have an acer aspire 5570z laptop with windows vista home edition operating system. After installing new vista service pack 1, the dvd rom drive (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device) is gone from 'My computer'. the device manager shows a yellow exclamation mark and device property says that the device cannot start (code 10). any body help me plzzzzzzzzzz. HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device Error Code 10 "Could not load driver software" - Windows Meda Center will not work either!
dvd rom drives don't actually use what we would call drivers, like the ones we use for the graphics card. They use what is known as "class filter drivers". These are different in the way that they only add functionality to burning or media programs such as Nero or NTI.
If you have burning software on or system, one thing to do is to completely uninstall them, and uninstall your dvd rom. Then re-install your burning software. Once this is done, open Device Manager and scan for hardware changes, it will locate your dvd rom and should install the class filter drivers.
If you don't have any burning software, or this doesn't work, then what you really need to do is uninstall Vista SP1. You can do this a couple of ways, please refer to this link to find out how: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948537
What you have is a common problem after you install Vista SP1 through Windows Update.
If uninstalling SP1 resolves your dvd rom problem (make sure you restart your system), then you need to download the Vista SP1 Standalone version. This is the FULL SP1, and is 434MB.
Sorry it was a bit long winded, but I hope it helps

I would try stopping the device and restarting it first.
If that doesn't work, find the latest drivers for it, and have them in a folder you can find easily. In device manager, you can right click, go into properties for the DVD-ROM. Click the update drivers button, and point it to that directory.
If neither of those work ,try completely uninstalling it from device manager, then going through the add new hardware option in control panel.
