I have sold over 100 of these (useless)... projectors so i can tell you that you need to;
go to display properties in the laptop and make sure you can see 2 screens otherwise you wil get nothing out of the video output/vga depending which model you have. go to the projector menu and make sure auto is set for the source/input. if your laptop has VGA out set optoma to VGA. start the projector up again and then the laptop in that sequence. if you need any more help email me.

How do I project my computer screen onto the screen

Every laptop has a facility to toggle the display from the screen to an external display. The exact method varies from brand to brand. But they're all a variation on the same theme. It's the Function button (Fn) and one of the F keys. On my HP its Fn + F4. I've had laptops in the past where it has been F5 and others that were F8. All of them though had a little symbol representing a screen on the correct key.

The way it works is that the laptop screen is on. The first press of the two buttons will put both screens on. The next press is just the output to the projector. The final press brings it round to the laptop only again.

Once you have just the projector running, then you should change the display resolution to suit the projector if the laptop hasn't already done it for you. You can tell when it's wrong because the text won't be crisp. The Powewrlite S1+ has a resolution of 800x600. Right click on the PC desktop and then select "graphics properties" or similar from the menu. Change the resolution from the drop down box. Click OK to confirm.

How to connect lp540 projector to hp computer

If using an laptop press and hold the FN key then press F4 or F8 and you may need to try this more then once to get it to the proper setting you need. If you are using a desk top with only one VGA output then should be just the cable and good to go, but if you are using two VGA outputs then you may have to configure the setting in control panel-display properties, for the 2nd monitor (projector).

I can't get a picture when I hook my projector up to my laptop.

HELLO,

If your LCD or DLP projector displays no image, this could be a variety of problems. First, check that the projector has power. On the top of the LCD or DLP projector should be some lights. With power, those lights will be on. If it has power, check to make sure that the projector lamp is firing. If so, go to the source. Make sure that it is connected with a VGA cable or USB cable to your computer, or with an RGB cable, S-Video cable or DVI connection to your VCR/DVD Player. From a laptop computer, the VGA cable should be connected to the VGA out connection, and into the VGA in connection on the projector. Are both ends tight?

If everything has checked out so far, the solution probably lies with the external monitor port. Check this by holding the Fn key on the keyboard, then press the F7 key. (On some computers, the key might be F5 or F3. Try these if F7 doesn't work) Each time you press the Fn / F7 combination, you will cycle your display through the following settings:

* Press Fn / F7 once: The laptop screen only
* Press Fn / F7 twice: The projector port only
* Press Fn / F7 three times: Both the laptop and projector port
* Wait a few seconds after each time you press the key combination to let the LCD or DLP projector refresh. Nine times out of ten this will result in seeing your projected image.

Hope this helpout....

Hooking up projector to my computer

If it's a laptop, you might need to activate the vga output, using the blue "fn" button in combination with f4,f6, f7 or f8, depending on your manufacturer.

On an HP, you press FN+F4 once, to turn off the LCD, and use the projector. Press it again to run both at the same time, and press a third time to use just the LCD. The cycle repeats on each press.
