My Sansa sandisk 4g locked up on me while using it today. I couldn't get it to shut off...holding the off button for 10 sec, 30 sec or a minute did nothing. I took the battery out to hopefully reset the device, that did nto work. But when I plug it in, it works, unplug it, it doesnt work. The battery was not drained when it locked up.
any suggestions would be most helpful. Also I am on vacation at the moment and cannot reload the software.

You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.
- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds) - Slide the hold switch into "hold" position. - Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.
Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.
Get out the battery and let the device "calm down" without any source of power for 5-10 minutes. After that push the menu/start button, hold down for 30 or more seconds and holding down, insert the battery. It has to reset the power circuitry and should help.
