try taking the ram chip out and gently cleaning the contacts with a dry soft cloth.....also blow out any dust that might have got into the connectors on the motherboard...then replace the ram and power on pc.....let us know what happens then

If it is only since removing the ram and re-inserting it that there is no display, try removing the ram again and re-inserting them 1 at a time then switching on to see if there is any display. Make sure the ram is firmly in place in its socket before switching on. Also you do not mention if there are any beeps coming from the internal speaker when switching on. These beeps sound different for different problems and the way it beeps can tell you where the problem lies.

What type of motherboard i have to buy so that i can use my Intel Pentuim (R) Processor 4, 2.66 GHz

You need to know what socket the processor fits...Is the Intel DG31PR the motherboard you had before? If so, the socket is LGA775. Find a board that is compatible with that socket and the the RAM that you have now...(ie DDR, DDR2, or DDR3) ...any of these listed here should work just fine: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/guidedSearch.asp?CatId=13&sel=Detail;31_174_12359_12359

In short, yes you can upgrade to a P4 cpu but from the compatibility chart at Intel support, it looks like the upper limit for this older board is the P4 2.6GHz.

Note: Even at that, running the P4 2.6 would require a BIOS upgrade to P12 or greater.

Luckily, the following link has the information you seek: (for BIOS info, click the "BIOS Version" link in the upper right corner of the compatibility table provided)

I dont know where the model number on my computer is

I have to assume the sound is derived from the mother board. We'll need the Manufacturer of the motherboard (not the chips) i.e. Intel, Assus etc. and the model # which should be printed very close to the manufacturers name.

You can add that to the motherboard. 80% chance your motherboard will support that memory. It will run at a lower speed if your motherboard can only run at a lower speed than 400Mhz
