Question about Xerox WorkCentre C2424DN All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

Posted the original problem as Blurry Copies for the Xerox WorkCentre X2424. Did what was suggested which was to clean the encoder with alcohol which is located in the drive/drum motor. Now the unit is displaying fault codes 07,007.40 and faults 04,024.4X. It will not pass a copy and will not run as a copier but will run a print page. HELP.

Xerox workcentre 3325: What do you do when you are having lines on copies when using the top feed?

Don't rush things. If you don't know how a laser printer functions, please don't touch anything. Let someone with knowledge clean the machine. Rubbing the wrong roller, can damage the printer bend repair.

Only clean the parts you are allowed to clean. Like removing dust on places outside the printing area.

We have a Workcentre pro 128 and when originals go through the feeder (not laid on the glass) they come out with a small line on the copies.

Take a piece of copy paper, and some alcohol or some glass cleaner.
Lift the document feeder and clean that 1 inch strip of glass on the right side. It may even be a mark on that glass you cant see.
But the copy paper and alcohol will create enough cleaning and firction to remove whatever is on there.
It just has to be a small dot of ink or dirt in the right spot on that glass.

Blurry images

Yeah , that is most likely the problem. If ou remove the right side cover , there is an encoder on the end of the drum motor shaft, It becomes contaminated with the silicon from the maintenance kit.
Fixing it requires you to pop the encoder off and flush it well with alcohol. It is unlikely is has failed, but when dirty is causes the drum to turn at the wrong speed.

Xerox 8500 has very blurry printing

You remove the right side cover, as viewed from the front of the machine. It is located about midway back on the machine, You want to locate the shaft for the drum, It is located on the motor on the end of that shaft. Once you remove the encoder, you flush it out with alcohol and allow it to dry before replacing and running.

Phaser 8400 Printing Blurry

The Drum Encoder is behind the fan assembly.

When you take the encoder cover off be extremely careful.
Use a cotton swab on the disc only with just a light amount of alcohol on the encoder disc.

Blurry Copies on Xerox WorkCentre C2424

There are three typical reasons for fuzzy text

1. Y-axis drum rotation problem.
2. Wrong drum temperature.
3. X-axis movement problem.

Sometimes the y-axis encoder will get oil inside and confuse the sensors, causing fuzzy/blurry print.

Most likely the drum assembly will need replaced.

Blurry copies on Workcentre C2424. Tried the solution regarding the encoder on the drive/drum motor. However, now the unit is back together but showing two codes: 04,024.4X & 07, 007.40. Not copying but...

Both are related to the process control signal. That is the motor assembly on the right side of the machine that is responcible for the movement of the maintenance kit.
You may have something disconnected from it. Or the sensor on the maintenance lift plate is disconnected or knocked out of position. But those coded both relate to the process control motor and gear chain. That is the motor on the right side, toward the front with the gear cluster attached.

Blurry copies

On the drum drive motor there is an encoder, it gets contaminated by the silicon oil in the maintenance kit. Removing it and cleaning it will alcohol will normally resolve that problem.
Sometimes that encoder will need to be replaced. But if you need further instructions, ask, I will let you know what to do.

The small scanner glass (not the full size glass) has some dirt on it. Use a lint-free cloth (not paper) with alcohol or Windex and clean the glass. This should help.
