Why PC on and off button will not shut off PC ?

try holding down the power button for 5 seconds this will shut it down but this is not the correct way to shut down computer at all. you need to go start>control panel>hardware and sound>power options>click on the left side it says choose what the power button does>next window use drop down to tell it to shutdown.....but the correct way to shut down is start>shutdown

Create One-Click Shutdown and Reboot Shortcuts:

First, create a shortcut on your desktop by right-clicking on the desktop, choosing New, and then choosing Shortcut. The Create Shortcut Wizard appears. In the box asking for the location of the shortcut, type shutdown. After you create the shortcut, double-clicking on it will shut down your PC.
But you can do much more with a shutdown shortcut than merely shut down your PC. You can add any combination of several switches to do extra duty, like this:
shutdown -r -t 01 -c "Rebooting your PC" Double-clicking on that shortcut will reboot your PC after a one-second delay and display the message "Rebooting your PC." The shutdown command includes a variety of switches you can use to customize it. Table 1-3 lists all of them and describes their use.
I use this technique to create two shutdown shortcuts on my desktop—one for turning off my PC, and one for rebooting. Here are the ones I use:
shutdown -s -t 03 -c "Bye Bye m8!" shutdown -r -t 03 -c "Ill be back m8 ;)!"
Switch What it does
-s Shuts down the PC.
-l Logs off the current user.
-t nn Indicates the duration of delay, in seconds, before performing the action.
-c "messagetext" Displays a message in the System Shutdown window. A maximum of 127 characters can be used. The message must be enclosed in quotation marks.
-f Forces any running applications to shut down.
-r Reboots the PC.

Dell 755 power light on, fan on after shutdown

Sounds like the power supply is not completely stopping the power after shutdown, Replace the PSU and it should fix the problem. If your problem is still existent then it may very well be the power switch itself. Replace if possible. I Hope this helps.

Computer Worked Fine, Shutdown to move it, hooked back up and nothing. No Fans, No Light, No Nothing.

Open the side panel of your computer chassis and ensure that all power connections are making good contact with the mainboard. You will need to go through all internal connections and push them in.

Pay special attention to the 24Pin mainboard power connector and the 4Pin CPU power connector. Also check that the power switch is connected to the header on the mainboard. The header for power switch can be found near the power and HDD LED connections.

Take care!

I cannot find the shutdown it disappear because of a certain download, now i dont knw how to shut may desktop....plz help i am so sleepy already

Try pushing the power button once, briefly. It should trigger the shutdown sequence. If not, try hitting Ctrl, Alt and Delete at the same time. That should bring up Task Manager. You'll find shut down in there. If that doesn't work either, all you can do is push and hold the power button until it shuts down, usually about 4-5 seconds, or pull the power plug.

I am trying to uninstall Google Earth and am told I must reboot my PC afterwards. Is this different from merely switching off and restarting my PC

No not really, it just means that with a cold switch off on, you are guaranteed of it reseting. It usually means that you go to start button, shutdown, & when you see restart you would use that shutdown/restart is just as good/
