I have two Toshiba TVs. One is a CZ36V61 the other a CN35D90. Both TVs have the same remote control. One of the remote controls stopped working. I know the problem is with the remote, not the TV, because one remote works both TVs and the broken remote won't work either TV. Its not the bateries,.

Some universal remotes control some TV functions but not all. You may have to do a code search to find another code that will work with your Toshiba TV. It may be necesary to try another universal remote or even a replacement OEM remote.

Unfortunately, TVs don't always work with universal remotes. The original remote probably had a button to control the captions, and there may not be any other way to access those settings. If you can't find caption control settings using the on-screen menu, you are out of luck. The only options then are to try another brand or model of universal remote that may have a button which will work, or to locate a replacement original remote control.
hold the remote near a radio in mw or sw band &press remote buttons . sound is heard by pressing button ,then remote is ok... the sensor of tv may be problem..........if sound is not heard remote problem..
Toshiba CRT-based TV's are notorious for having the IR (Infra-Red) sensor in the TV go bad. It's a small part, usually in a small metal box or shield with an opening in the front. Usually there are 4 pins or wires that get soldered to the circuit board. Buy finding a replacement part outside of an authorized Toshiba repair shop may be difficult.... Check your local Yellow Pages.
yes they do go bad. try cleaning the inside of the remote and check for a bad solder connection with-in the remote. the key pad can get dirty from your handling maybe a good cleaning but do not scrub it just lightly touch the pad with cue tip and alcohol
