Question about GE Spectra JGBP35 Gas Kitchen Range

Several Related Issues

Several problems with my oven/range exist. 1. The oven will start regularly but often does not come to proper temperature or stay on. It often undercooks food. The oven shuts off prior to me shutting it off. I have noticed that the 'beep' signal that the oven is at desired temperature sounds much too quickly. I have verififed this by using an independent thermometer to measure the temperature. 2. During oven operation and at times after I shut the oven off a 'F2' error message will come on. 3. The broiler has never worked in the 2 years that I have had ownership of this appliance. I think it is about 14 years old. There is no evidence of any broiler activity when I try to start it up. 4. Two burners on one side of the stove top do not start after a reasonable time. If a burner dial is set to lite it is likely the burner will not start. But if I also turn the nob to the High position for a few seconds, then back to lite, then the burner will light. After started any and all burners work very well. I am fairly handy with tools and am mechanically oriented. I am willing to do the repairs myself. Thank you for all of your support. Shado

I apologize for not providing the info earlier. GE XL44.
    Model #: JGBP35GEP4WG
The color of the range is white.

After reading more about this oven I suspect the oven problem is related to the Sensor, the broiler problem is related to the Igniter. I am not versed in electronics troubleshooting including use of a multimeter. So the fixes may involve (a sequence of) part changeout.

Thank you again for your advice.

    Gendos:

Thank you for your thorough analysis and recommendations as well as links for parts. It may take several days but I will do the checks you recommend and as necessary purchase and install the parts. Actually I checked for the broiler function tonight and heard the click at the control panel but there was no activity at the igniter. So I'll check for continuity and hopefully get it up and running soon. I will keep you posted.

    Hi folks, I have a Hotpoint model:RGB745BEA3WH.

The problem with it is the oven won't heat. All the top burners work and the broiler works, it is just the oven that won't heat. After reading some of the comments I'm wondering is it could also be the oven sensor (part# wb21x5301). I used to be able to hear the gas come on as well when I turn the temperature control knob but I can't hear that any more. strange..

I have confirmed the gas valve is on.

    thanks for any input!!

An error code ?F2″ will be displayed along with a beeping sound if the ERC senses a runaway heat condition. It could cause by the sensor itself, the wires that connect the sensor to the ERC or the ERC itself. To get access to an oven sensor and wires, the range has to be removed from the cabinet. Then you have to remove the rear cover. Then unplug the oven sensor and check the resistance across the oven sensor. It is supposed to be about 1100 ohms at room temperature. If the resistance is incorrect, the sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. If not, check all the wires from the oven sensor to the ERC and the plug for the sensor (or wire nuts). If it is not the sensor and wires, you have to replace the ERC, but most likely the problem is with the wires and/or sensor. The part number for the oven sensor WB21X5301 and you can buy it herehttp://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/clic... The part number for the ERC WB27T10083 and you can buy herehttp://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/clic... Be very careful with the overlay because it is no longer available. You have to remove it from the old ERC and place it over the new one.

Next step is the broiler igniter. The first thing you do is a visual test. Turn the broil function on. You should hear a click sound from the control panel. Wait at least 30 seconds and take a look at the igniter. It should glow very bright red, almost close to white. Normal time for the igniter to open the gas burner valve and to light up the burner is between 40 second to 1 minute. If it glows red but not bright and even if it does light up the burner but it takes more than a minute, the igniter is bad and has to be replaced. If it does not glow at all, remove the power from the range, remove the igniter wires and check for continuity between these wires. If there is no continuity, replace the igniter. If there is continuity, then the problem could be with wires, gas valve or ERC. If you did not hear a click from the control panel when you started the broil no doubt this is the ERC. The part number for the igniter WB2X9154 and you can buy it herehttp://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/clic...

And now top burners. Most likely it is no mechanical problems with them. Just clean them using a soft metal brush and I believe it will solve the problem.

Why is the thermostat temp. range reading 30 degrees lower than it should be

Thermostat controls are nothing but variable resistors. Sometimes they build corrosion in the metal tab that it is sliding on. First try rotating the knob back and forth several times full range. If it is a slider instead of a knob, move it up and down full range. (This should be done on a regular basis.) If that does not work then shut the power off to the unit and get some contact cleaner. You can buy it in any electronic store. Spray the contact cleaner into the back of the control and work the knob full range again. It should feel easier to turn after a few turns. This should do the trick. If it doesn't, you need a new thermostat.

I have a 79012-19 gas range and when I turn on the regular oven or convection oven you immediately start to smell gas and then it never gets to the proper temperature. It has been taking a long time to...

You more than likely have a bad ignitor...and if you are getting a l;oud boom the you should also consider replacing the gas valve for the oven it should not be letting gas out until the ignition is hot.

I need to learn how to use my oven, because i don't know how to turn it on.i need to bake,so can u tell me how?

You can get the manual for the RGB745 at the GE Appliances support site: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ . Enter the model number in the search box. There are several models that start with RGB745.

On most of the Hotpoint ovens for regular baking, press Bake and use the + or - buttons to set the desired oven temperature. Then press Start/On. Then the oven will display Pre as it re-heats. When the thermostat indicates the desired temperature is reached, the oven will beep. The racks should be on the middle positions for most baking. (For roasting use the lowest positions.) Put the food in when the oven is done preheating. When done, press Clear/Off. Timed baked requires the clock be set correctly, then set the start and end times.

For the older ovens with dials to control the oven, set the first dial to Bake and the second to the desired temperature. Wait at least 10 minutes for the oven to preheat. Again put the oven racks in the middle of the oven for most baking.

Do not lock the oven latch and keep the oven closed through the baking cycle as much as possible. (Rotating pans and basting steps should be done quickly so that the oven doesn't cool much.)

I hope this helps.

I have a Maytag Gemini range and the bottom oven is off by 25 degrees. When I set it for 350 it only gets up to 325 actual temp even though the digital display says 350. Is there an adjustment or do I have...

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

OVEN TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT
If you think the oven is operating too cold or hot, you can adjust it. Bake several test items and then adjust the temperature set- ting not more than 10° F at a time.
To Adjust: 1. PresstheBAKEpad(upperorlower
oven) and enter 550° F.
2. PressandholdtheBAKEpad(upperor lower oven) for several seconds until TEMP ADJ is displayed.
3. PresstheAUTOSETpad-eachpress changesthetemperatureby5°F. The control will accept changes from -35° to +35° F.
4. Iftheovenwaspreviouslyadjusted, the change will be displayed. For example, if the oven temperature was reduced by 15° F, the display will show -15° F.
5. When you have made the adjustment, press the CANCEL pad and the time of day will reappear in the display. The oven will now bake at the adjusted temperature.

Hi,
If your electric2_bing.gif oven is not heating then you probably have a bad heating element in your oven. This is not that hard to fix yourself...

How do I calibrate the oven temp?

Oven Temperature Adjustment Option for the MSG5770
If you think the oven should be hotter or cooler, you can adjust
it yourself. To decide how much to change the oven temperature,
set the temperature 25°F higher or lower than the temperature
in your recipe, then bake. The results of the “test” should
give you an idea of how much to adjust the temperature.
To adjust the oven temperature:
1. Press the BAKE pad.
2. Enter 550° by pressing the number pads “5, 5, 0”.
3. Press and hold the BAKE pad for several seconds until 0°
appears in the display.
4. Press any number pad to change the temperature. Each time
a pad is pressed, the temperature changes by 5°F.
• Press repeatedly to reach +35°F. Continue pressing
to reduce the temperature up to -35°F.
• If the oven temperature was previously adjusted, the
change will be displayed. For example, if the oven
temperature was reduced by 15°, the display will
show -15°.
5. When you have made the adjustment, press the
CANCEL pad and the time of day will reappear in the
display. The oven will now bake at the adjusted
temperature.
NOTE: Do not change the temperature setting more than
10° at a time before testing the oven.
It is not necessary to readjust the oven temperature if there
is a power interruption. This adjustment will not affect
broil or clean temperatures.

You may have already solved this but either your convection motor is not on or you have an air leak. I would get the repair man out since it is probablt still under warranty.
