Question about Kodak EasyShare DX6490 Digital Camera
The rotary on/off/video on my kodak dx6490 has gotten tough to work but is still managable... however now the center toggle switch will not do right or down, only left and up. Tried cleaning from the outside thinking it's simply grit or something blocking the contacts? My next step is taking it apart to clean properly. I fear there might be tiny pieces ready to fall out.
Hello Megan,The joystick you are referring to has a bad record for failure in these model Kodaks,It is one of the most occurring problems the units have with age. It is not an easy fix nor a cheap one, the cost will exceed the value of the DX6490 on todays market. You are better off to sell your camera for parts and buy one in better condition on E-Bay,If you buy the same model you can still use all your accessories, battery, charger, etc.
Best Regards, Russell

dissmantle the back case (watch for 1 hidden screw under rubber covers), lift plate on back of lcd screen, remove screw on back of dial, clean where it sits on both sides (most probably from a liquid spill...tea, coffee...) , apply some lube with a cottonbud ore a bit of tisue and rebuild.
hope this helps

dear sir, thank you...take care
the problem is usually caused by virus and sometimes it might be software failure also, which causes some of the menu not to function, the only solution is to flash ur cam software from the nearest kodak service centre..
thank you...take care

2 years after the problem, i extend the lense and twist hard to the left.
then put it in the original position.

Know no solution, just, that is, what my camera did when it fell, the zoom lence was zoomed out, now it won't retract. Must have a crack also like yours. I took the back off and tried to see if any cables were loose, none were so I know it's in the front area of the camera. The zoom probably. My LCD screen doesn't come on either. But the camera it turns on and lights up the selection icon that I have it on. Did you get yours fixed? Sorry to post on the solution when not a solution. But, I didn't see a reply button, to type a regular reply.I did call the Kodak company and they said to buy another camera would be cheaper than getting mine sent to them to be fixed.
