There is a rattleing noise coming from the primary while running.
I also have a 2008 Road King Classic that had a chain-like noise when running.
Starting in 2007, the touring bikes have a spring-loaded primary tensioner.
While good in theory, it's not a perfect science.
Try this:
In first gear, accelerate hard up to about 30 MPH.
Then get off the gas, and brake with the rear brake as hard as you can without locking up the wheel. Do this with the clutch engaged (clutch lever released) until it gets slow enough that you have to pull the clutch lever in to prevent a stall.
What this does is puts a load on the chain, tightening the top run, and giving maximum looseness to the lower run, where the adjuster works off of.
This (in theory) should take enough load off the adjuster spring so that it tries to tighten the chain to the next tooth on the ratcheting mechanism that prevents the adjuster from backing off.
If you notice a change of noise/condition goes away, that was your problem (and you'll know what to do next time you hear it).
If not, you might have to go into the primary cover and see what's up.
Chances are either the nut on the compensating sprocket is loose or the primary chain is loose.

check any service manual, they are all about the same system. I think I know what you are saying though.Take the switch housing off the right side, twist the throttle one way then the other to dis connect cables( there is 2). Old grip should slip right off. Is ther manual cruise on it? If so, that will need to be dis assembled as well (in the switch housing) It is not easy to do if you have big mitts.
SOURCE: How do you set the cruise control on my 2008 Road
You should have a cruise on and off switch on your dash unit, turn this on. a Red cruise indicator should come on on the tach or speedo. On the right hand set of controls you should have a set/resume rocker switch, Get the bike to the desired speed and push to the set, if you have done this correctly the small cruise indicator should come up Green on your tach or speedo. If you apply the brakes cruise will come off and the indicator will become red again. Get the bike up to speed and hit resume to return to desired speed.
To alter speed while underway, the set / resume button also double as the accelerate / coast button. if you wist to increase your cruise speed move the button to the ACC position until the desired speed is acheived, same for reducing cruising speed, hold to the coast position until desired speed is met then release button.
I don't believe the cruise will lock in if you are below 60kmph or 35mph, as it is meant for highway use.

The first thing I would do is change the oil and clean the screen. I would use a lighter oil for the winter (10w40) if your bike uses it. Running some "seafoam" in the tank wouldn't hurt and making sure your gas is the proper octane
cam chain would make more of a slapping noise so it may be a sticky lifter. While I don't use SeaFoam in my "oil" the directions states that you can use for about 100 miles prior to an oil change to clean out carbon and gum inside the engine. That would be a personal call so you'll have to decide if you want to do that. I use Seafoam in the gas...just never have put it in the oil yet. Also...some use Marvel Mystery Oil and claim it helps clear up sticky lifters. If you use either product be sure to follow the directions carefully.

It is for any thing you may wont to add like extra lighting or 12volt power. They are usually just wired with a hot wire in and a plug or post for you to add a 12v line to assory
