Question about PC Desktops

My Western Digital My Home external drive is not showing in Finder. I've recently had a power outage and since then it stopped showing in Finder. I've plugged the chords in and out again and pushed the on/off switch a few times but nothing worked. The green light is still showing on the power 'brick'.

thnx for responding. i managed to get it working. Im not sure why it wasnt switching on for weeks, but it began to work again once i did this: - Plug the FW chord to my computer, then put my computer to sleep,  then plugged the drive into powerpoint, then woke my computer from sleep. After those steps in that exact order, it seemed to work again :)

It's possible something was damaged on the interface board inside the case, or on the drive itself. If you listen to the drive and it sounds like it's spinning up normally when you turn on the power, it's probably the board. I haven't had it happen yet on my WD external drives (I have two), but I have seen 3 Maxtor brand external drives with that problem. The drive itself was fine when put into another external case.

My Western Digital 500GB USB has stopped working. No blue lights and the green light on the power supply is intermittantly flashing.

Hello,

What model Western Digital USB drive do you have? The problem is the power supply is bad, the flashing light is it trying to power up and failing so it tries again. If you et me know what model I should be able to help more.

I have a western digital elements external hard drive and my power cable has broken and i cant seem to find replacement parts anywhere

The power cable you are talking about--is the cable itself broken? Do you mean the wires are cut?
It requires an AC adapter. If you take it to an electronics store, there is a good chance they can come up with an adapter that will work. There are a bunch of universal adapters out there. All you have to do is make sure the voltage/amperage is the same and the plug fitsl
I suppose you could ask Western Digital for a replacement, but that might be expensive.

Cannot access hard drive after putting in external box

First, retrace your steps.
Make sure that the hard drive in the ext. casing is set to Drive 0 or master. If it is a Western Digital, take off any jumpers. If it Maxtor or Seagate it needs a jumper on the master pins. The legend on the hard drive will show you where.
Then, make sure that the IDE cable is on correctly. Or like many enclosures, you have to push the hard drive onto the connector.
When you power the unit up, listen to the hard drive and hear if it is spinning up.
Then see if it works.
I would also try a different USB port.
Did the enclosure include an AC power source? If not , the USB may not have enough power to run the unit.
If it still shows as an unknown unit, I would set it up as a secondary internally on your new PC to see if it is in fact the hard drive that is bad.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

I need to download the file ARCSOFT for a WESTERN DIGITAL external hard drive. Is this possible

You are referring to a software which was preloaded on your hard drive and it appears you lost this program. Western Digital provides on their website a few tools, but not the preloaded programs on your drive (except for the backup program tools intially installed.

I reccomend calling Western Digital and ask them how to obtain this software.
