Re: unlock area code on DVD
1. Power on the player with no disc. 2. Wait for the "No Disc" message to appear on the TV (not the player). 3. Press Pause on the remote. 4. Press 3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9 on remote. 5. Press 0 (region free) on the remote (or any other region number you want). You'll see the number on the player's display. 6. Press Pause on the remote. 7. Power off the player. 8. Wait a minute. 9. Power on. I hope that will help you

There is no region free firmware available for your player at the moment. There is a guy in australia who has created one but will not release it. HD DVD's dont have region coding. I assume its for regular dvds?
HI, paste link below into your browser and follow the instructions. The unlock code for the 6053 is the same as for the 5931. Simply burn the disc and put it in your player. I used this site to unlock mine, very worthwhile.
Sounds like the TV you are using does not support NTSC, the US TV standard. Try connecting the DVD player to some other TVs - something not more than a few years old would be a good bet, and a large screen plasma/LCD ideal as most of these are "multi-system" and handle PAL and NTSC automatically.
If the problem was the region coding you would be getting a message on the screen, something like "Cannot play due to area limitations".
I picked up a LG DV276 DVD Player here in Australia but I am from the
United States so I own region 1 DVDs. I unlocked my new player by
instead 1. Open the tray. 2. Press 0 0 0 0 on the remote and a Menu
will appear. 3. Press 0 for region free. 4. Press pause and power off.
I can play everything now, Aussie and US DVDs. Thanks LJ66.
