When XP first came out, some applications that worked with Windows 98 turned out to be incompatible with XP (just like now the same thing's happening with Vista). Your Adaptec software is probably in that category. The easiest solution is to get some new burning software. These are two good free burner programs:

InfraRecorder (download from infrarecorder.org)
CDBurnerXP (download from cdburnerxp.se)

I've tried them both. Personally I like CDBurnerXP a little better, but they are very similar.

And did I mention they are free?

I'm guessing this product doesn't work with windows 7. You might try right clicking on the install program on the cd and running it in compatibility mode for windows xp.

Vaio cr363 dvd writimg problem.

Installing a working ASPI layer
For years people have had various problems with the so called ASPI layer, which is required by many Windows CD-R software’s. This article aims to successfully install a good and working ASPI setup.

What is ASPI?
aspicheck.gifThe term "ASPI" stands for Advanced SCSI Programming Interface. It’s a universal driver layer that operates in between software and the CD-R hardware. It is often referred as 'ASPI layer', ‘ASPI driver’, 'ASPI Interface', which are all synonymous terms for the same thing. Windows 95/98/ME ships with a poorly implemented ASPI layer, while NT/2000/XP has no ASPI layer built in. You can check your current ASPI setup by using the ASPICHK tool that comes with the Adaptec ASPI distribution.

Many software titles install their own drivers to the operating system and therefore do not need an ASPI layer. Such software titles include CloneCD, DiscJugger, GEAR, BlindWrite and many others. On the other hand there is a large number of software that require an ASPI driver installed: Exact Audio Copy, Feurio!, BurnAtOnce, CD-R Indetifier, and so on. Nero Burning ROM comes with it’s own ASPI layer that other software can utilize too.

The symptoms of ASPI related problems
Problems that may occur if there is no proper ASPI setup:

-The CD/DVD devices are not detected by the software
-The CD/DVD devices don’t operate correctly with some program

There are also some reports on the Internet of the ASPI layer affecting the performance of a program (like audio ripping quality) but they have not been properly verified.

Solution 1: Get the latest Adaptec ASPI layer
adaptec.gifSince the version Adaptec has been offering their drives freely for public. Their drivers should operate in any Windows version, including XP. There are however various reports of problems with these drivers. I tested Adaptec’s ASPI 4.72a2 in my computer, but programs utilizing it recognized only my SCSI connected CD drives - the IDE devices were not detected.

Download latest Adaptec ASPI

After downloading the EXE file, run it. The program asks for a destination folder, and unzips the contents there. Use, for example, C:\ASPI\ for the folder.

Next open the C:\ASPI\ folder using the Windows Explorer. Run aspichk (or aspichk.exe) and you will see if Adaptec ASPI verification can find ASPI drivers on your computer. If it says "ASPI is properly installed and fully operational" your ASPI drivers should be OK. If on the other hand it says "ERROR: ASPI is not properly installed", you need to install ASPI drivers.

To (re)install the Adaptec ASPI drivers, run aspiinst (or aspiinst.exe) and click Install. After the installation you should restart Windows, and run aspichk. You should then see the different ASPI driver versions listed, and the box at the bottom should read "ASPI is properly installed and fully operational".

Solution 2: Get the Nero ASPI by Ahead Software
acf2836.jpgAhead software also offers their ASPI layers free. They also promise support for USB/FireWire devices. Most programs should operate with Ahead’s ASPI, and there are many positive reports about the performance of this driver.

We on the other hand had a slight issue with Ahead ASPI. The Feurio! audio CD recording software wasn’t always able to lock the CD-R drive during the burning process.

Download latest Nero ASPI

Solution 3: ForceASPI
ForceASPI is based on older Adaptec ASPI 4.60(1021) version. This version of Adaptec ASPI refuses to install if there are no Adaptec products installed on the computer (Software or hardware), but the ForceASPI package solves this issue by inserting the drivers to the operating system with it’s own installer script.

Get ForceASPI

Adaptec ASPI doesn’t promise Windows 2000 or XP compliancy for the driver version 4.60, but public experience is that they work very well, even in Windows XP. On our test bench computer the ForceASPI was the best solution as an ASPI driver. It works flawlessly in every program tested.

Follow the steps below to remove the Adaptec CD-Burning Plug-in from Media Player version 7.x. Windows Media Player version 8 that came pre-installed in Windows XP does not display this issue.
Click Start , Settings , and then Control Panel .
Double-click Add/Remove Programs .
If installed, Windows Media Player 7.x will be presented in the list.
Click the Change/Remove button.
The Windows Media Component Setup window should be displayed. The radio button next to Remove Windows Media Player components should be selected. Click Next .
Place a check in the box next to Adaptec CD-Burning Plug-in . Click Next .
The Adaptec CD-Burning Plug-in will be removed from the computer. Click Restart to complete the operation.
Method 2: Removing the Upper and Lower Filter registry keys
The second method for resolving this issue is to remove the registry keys associated with the loading of CD recording drivers. Follow the steps below precisely to resolve the issue. Exporting the registry is imperative before making any changes to the registry. If mistakes are made during the editing process, the registry can normally be repaired with the exported registry.
Step 1: Remove upper and lower filters
The steps below describe how to remove the drivers associated with the drives disappearing. After removing the filter driver keys, the CD recording software will be have to be re-installed.
With a copy of the registry exported, click the plus signs [+] in front of the follow keys in the order they are listed: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE , SYSTEM , and then ControlSet . In some cases, multiple ControlSets may be listed similar to the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002
Click the plus sign [+] in front of either CurrentControlSet or the lowest numbered ControlSet. For example, in the second list above, ControlSet001 would be the correct listing.
Click the plus sign [+] in front of Control.
Click the plus sign [+] in front of Control.
Click the plus sign [+] in front of Class.
Locate the following key and highlight it in the left window of the Registry Editor (The numbers can be very similar, be careful select the correct key. Another method to find the correct key is to highlight Class, then cut and paste the key below into a Find window accessed from Edit and Find in the Registry Editor.)
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
With the key highlighted, the right pane will have multiple keys listed including LowerFilters and UpperFilters. Highlight LowerFilters and press the Delete (Del) on the keyboard. A confirmation dialog box will be displayed asking if the value should be deleted. Click Yes to delete the value.
Repeat the process for the UpperFilters by highlighting UpperFilters, pressing the Delete (Del) key on the keyboard and again confirming the value should be deleted by clicking Yes.
Exit the Registry Editor
Restart the computer. The optical drives should then be recognized and available for use.
NOTE:- If the computer still does not recognize the drives, go back into the registry and repeat the above steps for editing the registry for each of the ControlSets listed on the customer’s system.
Step2: Reinstall the HP DVD / CD-Writer software
Deleting the LowerFilters and UpperFilters will prevent the previously installed recording software from operating successfully. The software that came with the HP CD-Writer or DVD Writer will need to be re-installed to function correctly. Follow the instructions included with your CD-Writer to re-install the software.

Toshiba DVD ROM SD M1302 driver

If you are using Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, NT or XP, and have an ATAPI/IDE CD/DVD drive, there is no driver needed (see Toshiba statement I have posted below). Under no circumstances, if DVD is properly installed and functional, will you need ANY driver!

If your DVD drive is a SCSI drive, then it may need drivers specific to the SCSI card you have installed (see the specs/manual or website for your card). You may also need the Adaptec SCSI setup, available at this address:

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/suppbyproduct.jsp?sess=no&language=English+US&cat=%2FTechnology%2FSCSI+Software&fromPage=driverindex

or use this address if you have a LOGIC based SCSI card or device:

http://www.lsilogic.com/

Now, if you meet the criteria for the first paragraph I wrote, and your PC does not load the driver automatically (after a reboot or two) then you have a PHYSICAL or HARDWARE problem. Either the DVD drive is improperly cabled, improperly installed or defective.

Those are all your options. See below, from Toshiba website
good luck

ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD Drivers

Toshiba's CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives do not require any unique device drivers for Windows '95/'98/2000/XP/NT.
After installing your drive and re-booting, your system should recognize your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Win '95/'98/2000/XP/NT Operating Systems support all Toshiba ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives natively.

DOS/Windows 3.x Device Drivers

This device driver is to be used with DOS/Windows 3.x operating systems. Do not use this driver with Windows '95, Windows '98, XP or Windows 2000 unless you are going to use your system in the REAL or MS-DOS Modes. Device drivers for Windows '95, Windows '98, Windows 2000, XP, OS/2, and NT operating systems are provided with the installation or setup software of each operating system.

DOS ATAPI Interface Driver
If you prefer using DOS click the link below to download a MS-DOS ATAPI interface driver.
atapi.exe

SCSI CD-ROM and DVD Drivers

SCSI interface drivers are written for the SCSI card you are using in your system, by the SCSI card manufacturer. They are not specific to your Toshiba drive and are not provided by Toshiba. If during installation Windows can not find the correct SCSI software driver for your SCSI card and you do not have the software driver that came with your SCSI card, contact your SCSI host adapter manufacturer.
