Question about Printers & Copiers

7 Answers

Hi. My Brother DCP 115C is locked up. All I get is the red warning light - no error messages, and no response other than warning bleeps when I press any of the buttons. I have tried turning it on and off. There is no paper jam, and the ink cartridges are fine.

    Tried first advice - no luck. There is some sound of movement when I turn the printer on, and a few warning beeps, then nothing but the red warning sign on constant.

  • johngwinters Dec 03, 2008

    Thanks Benimur. Did what you advised and the copying buttons now function ok., which is a start. I now have the Warning Light and Photo Capture Light flashing constantly. All other buttons (including on/off) are dead, and no text at all, so no error message/code.

    Hi. What`s a hard reset? If it means restarting the machine from the mains, I have tried that. No luck!

It could ve various problems about this red light error on the printer and very common reaSON for this error is low ink in the cartridges,as sometime the low ink message does not show up on the machine it directly goes to this red light error and nothing happens. to locate whether the ink is low or not u can try this instructions  Checking the ink volume You can check the ink that is left in the cartridge. 1 Press (Ink Management). 2 Press or to select Ink Volume. Press Set. 3 Press or to select the colour you want to check. The LCD shows the ink volume. 4 Press Stop/Exit. You can check the ink volume from your computer. (For Windows® users, see Status Monitor on page 1-3 in Software User’s Guide on the CD-ROM or for Macintosh® users, see Status Monitor on page 8-2 in Software User’s Guide on the CD-ROM.) Ink also there r many more troubleshooting issues given in the link below which i m giving u .just click the link directly and the link will downloaded in that lick after it downloads click the option trouble shoot that is page number 70 in that link. http://www.brother.com.ph/CMS/Product/File/DCP-115C_UserGuide.pdf

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, your concern would require that the error code(s) be displayed by:

  • power off the machine by unplugging from the mains;
  • press and hold the "MENU" button down while powering on the machine;
  • maintain press & hold on the "MENU" button until error code is displayed.
If the above initial solution has merit, pls click on my "Ask Me" should you need additional information or postback here how things turned up and to explore your additional options.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    Now I wonder if you would be able to see this subsequent post in reply to your comment "Thanks Benimur. Did what you advised and the copying buttons now function ok..."

    The "Warning Light" is a general failure indicator and that you are in "Maintenance Mode" while the "Photo Capture Light" refers to the built-in memory card reader. Initially, pls check that nothing is lodged inside the memory slots or better yet clean them with flattened cotton buds and then a spray of compressed air.

    Should you want to open up the machine and explore for loose wiring or connections, this page would be informative. Though for another model, the general procedures would be identical.

Try turning the platen on your own if you can then.

Unplug the printer. Leave it unplugged for several minutes and plug it back in.

You should be getting an error message.

    There is a jam. A jam that could be a broken tooth on a gear drving the platen for the paper.

    Please understand that normally we all have printers in front of us in the real world. Making these judgements over the internet is difficult.

    To resolve this, since there is no error message to work from, you may have to remove the outer covers of the printer and examine the entire printer carefully.

    Are you connecting your printer through an external USB hub or a USB port on the front of your computer?

    Regards,

    A hard reset is when all power from all sources is removed for several minutes.

    Remove the USB cable. Remove the power cable from power. Leave it like that for a good twenty minutes. This allows the power circuit to fully deeneergize.

    Do not reconnect the USB cable. Connect the Power cable. Press the On button and leave it depressed for as long as it takes to get a diagnostic menu with reset option. If this doesn't happen. Remove power again for a good deal of time. This time when you apply power and turn it on press and hold the Cancel or Reset button down while pressing the power on. This time keep the Cancel or Reset down until the diagnostic or reset menu appears.

    If these two hard resets do not give you results, your problem exists inside the power train of the printer and it is failing during the power on self test. You will have to remove all the covers and examine the gearing for chipped teeth or bad belts if any. There is some impediment for the gears to all rotate until they find a home position. This may be beyond your scope of experience. In this case you will have to have it serviced.

    I've already looked in the databases for a reset sequence for your problem and none exists. This is not a good sign. Sorry.

    Hopefully, the hard resets will get you going or your examination of the power train gear paths will result in an obvious issue.

    Good Luck,
    Worldvet

Unable to clean message in brother dcp-115c aio

I saw on this site codes for another MFC to clear memory and reset the cleaning unit count code to zero. It worked on two of my brother mfc 820cw units. The third mfc 5840cn had unable to print error message 46- nothing at Brother. they want you to take everything to a repair shop.they don't help at all. Then the error went to 4F when I tried toclear the memory.As Iunderstand that message- it means I have to replace the printer head. Have no clue where or what it is. But I can read a manual as well as anyone and follow directions to fix it! Can't be worse than it is now! Good luck
