The error showing on the PS3 is (80010514) and it is not reading any discs the console is just over a year old. Can you inform me if this can be resolved. I do believe from my son's pals that this is a common problem.

Re: PS3 is not reading discs
There is a common problem with the Blue-Ray players in the PS3. There is not anything that i know of that you can do other than have your PS3 worked on
**Warning** If you have the old 80 or 60 gig ps3 that you are able to play PS2 games on and you are trying to go through sony for repair they may just give you a new 80 gig ps3 in which you will not be able to play PS2 games on any more that feature has been taken away

This could be alnes problem or a system problem. Try to restore the PS3 first.
Turn off the ps3 then press and hold the powr button until it turns off again. Then do the same thing but this time it will make a beep, then it will make a double beep, and as soon as the ps3 makes a double beep release it. Its going to bring up a menu and make sure you press number 3 which is restoring file system. I would recommend going to this webpage which explains everything in better details http://www.ps3blog.co.za/2008/04/10/ps3-error-80010514-explained/
Hi, if your PS3 is reading DVD's and CD's, but NOT any type of BLUE-RAY
media.....95% sure it's a faulty laser. The Backwards compatible units
are equipped with a RED laser for DVD and CD reading. The Blue Ray
Diodes are faulty..especially in the earlier production models. This
was due to the shortage of parts during production, so SONY out sourced
from multiple producers of BR laser units.
My 80gb , 4 usb, Backwards combatibility unit started doing this. The
game froze, system became unresponsive, wouldn't show the the Disc ICON
in the XMB for PS3 games. When the games did load they would play for a
few mins then freeze, or error code 80010514 would appear.
I got the laser replaced by a reputable repairman, now the system works
without fault. It's been running for hours with no problems.
Get the lens replaced by either SONY or someone who knows what they are
doing....also give your PS3 a good dusting everyday. When the Laser
unit gets too hot the diodes malfunction and eventually fail.
I have the same problem, it's error 80010514. An error occurred during start up operation. That's what you would see on your screen if the disc would even get read. Your ps3 is screwed. Call 1-800-345-sony and talk to them. They will tell you that you need to send it in and if your 1 year warranty is up you have to pay $150. I'm waiting for them to send the coffin to send my ps3 back in
My son has a PS3 which was just a year old in October 08 there is an error appearing (80010514) and it is not reading the discs. Please can you inform me is there any way this can be rectified by myself without sending the whole console away.
