Question about LG CD Drives

I need cd rom help bad

I have a Toshiba Satelitte A205-S5867. I am having major cd rom drive problems.

My cd rom drive is not showing. I can't eject the disc that is in it. I have tried doing the device manager thing and it's not working. I had this problem before but last time I got a fixcd.reg code. I did that and everything was all fine until I shut down my computer this afternoon. I shut it down this morning and when I turned it back on it was still there. I had to shut down my computer for a program I installed and when I loaded it back up it was gone. I unistalled and got rid of the new program but I can't get my cd rom back.

It still says it's there in the device manager and still says it's working but it has NO location and has no information under the volume tab.

I am running with Windows Vista Home Premium.

I got it fixed with my own solution. I had to unistall a game I have having the disc still in while I shut down the computer was the problem. I just had to get the disc out the install the drive again. The only time it messed with my computer though is when I left it in

Tyhere should be a pin hole in cd drive u insert a pin into to allow you to open the drive but what i suggest open the tower disconnect power to drive turn on comp then turn off then reinsert power to it then turn comp on to have it re reconize it or you can go control panel>settings>device manager(hardware manager) in there uninstall the cd drive then restart comp if this no fix find your cd rom drive updated drivers from their website if still no work buy a new one they not expensive

  1. Turn off the power to the computer.
  2. Insert a steel rod (about 1.3 mm in diameter) into the emergency eject hole and push hard. (A stiff paper clip may be used).
  3. The disc tray is ejected a short distance. Pull it all the way open by hand. roadfox_2.jpg

Latest firmware?? Where download?

http://www.eid.toshiba.com/support/swdrivers.shtml

If the boot disk came with your laptop, it should have the necessary drivers on it. You cannot burn drivers on your CD-Rom boot disk because it is not made of the material suitable for laser burning. Even if it were, it would have been "finalized" and the CD writer would not burn it.

First of all, you have to enter the BIOS Setup to see if the drive is detected. If not, then you have a hardware problem, loose connection or bad drive.

Boot to your C: drive and go to the Toshiba link (above) to download the drivers. Then install the CD-ROM via Control Panel>Add Hardware route.

hope this helps

Were to get a toshiba cd-rom

I searched for Toshiba CD-ROM drives and found only support references to products made about ten years ago. Toshiba shows only hard drives on its storage device products page. I could be wrong, but it appears Toshiba is not in the CD/ROM drive business anymore.

Is there a particular reason you must have a Toshiba brand CD-ROM? Any CD-ROM with the same interface type should work, if you can find a driver compatible with your operating system. If I recall correctly, Toshiba uses Sony optical drives in its laptop computers. (So far as I know Toshiba always used standard interfaces, so a proprietary drive should not be an issue.) The prices on CD-R and CD- R/W devices have come down considerably in the last several years, so you may want to consider one of those if your computer is fast enough to support reliable disc burning operations (800 MHz or better should suffice).

The CD ROM Drive is not ejecting properly

hi,
Locking device / software installed
First, verify no locking software is being loaded, which would allow the CD-ROM tray not to open. If you are unable to determine this, reboot the computer and as it is booting up, attempt to eject the tray. No power to computer or CD-ROM drive
If you have recently installed a new CD-ROM drive or you have moved the computer, it is possible that the power to the CD-ROM may have become loose or disconnected. Check the cable connections. Bad eject button
If you are running Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows ME, or Windows XP, open My computer, right-click on the CD-ROM drive and choose the option to eject. If this ejects your CD-ROM drive tray, it is likely that the button on the CD-ROM drive has become defective and it is recommended that the drive be replaced. CD stuck within drive
It is possible that a CD may have become stuck within the CD-ROM drive. If the CD-ROM drive has a small hole (that is not the head phone jack), using a paper clip, place the paper clip within the hole and attempt to manually eject the CD-ROM tray. If the CD-ROM drive is only partially able to be opened, attempt to pull the tray gently to see if it can be manually ejected. If it cannot be opened any further, it is likely that the gears within the CD-ROM drive have become bad, dislodged, or that a CD is positioned in the drive, which does not allow it to open. Incompatibility with IDE / ATAPI interface
If you have an IBM compatible computer and recently installed the CD-ROM drive and are unable to open the drive, attempt to temporarily disconnect the IDE cable to verify that you not experiencing an issue with an incompatibility between the CD-ROM and motherboard. Once the IDE cable has been disconnected, power on the computer and see if the CD-ROM drive tray is now able to be opened. If the drive is able to be opened with the IDE / ATAPI cable disconnected, it is recommended you use the interface card supplied with the CD-ROM drive or the ATAPI interface on the sound card / motherboard. Bad drive
Unfortunately, if after following the above recommendations you are still unable to properly open the CD-ROM drive using the button on the front of the CD-ROM drive, it is likely defective and should be replaced. Caution: If you are able to open the CD-ROM drive using a paper clip. We do not recommend that you continue using the CD-ROM drive by manually ejecting the CD-ROM using a paper clip. The drive should be replaced and this is not meant to be used as a temporary solution. Additional information and tips for buying a new CD-ROM drive can be found on our CD-ROM buying tips section.

CD ROM won't play

Check the Hardare manager is there any question mark at the icons of the CD drive? If the auto play does'nt work then the CD-rom is not reading the CD, either the CD format is different or the CD-rom lens is faulty. Note: don't remove Hardware when PC is running, you might cause damage to your Hardware devices.

Display problem

hey that problem is very generic, it could come from: virus, bad drivers, bad hardware, ANY, bad software... so without precise information on what you are using and doing I cannot do much.

For now I tell you the following:

the videodriver might be the problem
and the sounddriver too... to begin you should reinstall all drivers that you can find at toshiba.com... just get the latest and install them. Get the latest bios too and the bios upgrade tool, do not try to upgrade bios if you do not have that toshiba tool.

If that does not help, either you have a windows problems or a hardware problem, in those cases... I would need more information to help you.

CD/DVD ROM disappears

I would think either your IDE cable is faulty or the IDE connector on the motherboard, try swapping cables or use a double IDE cable on IDE 1 connector. You may have a faulty drive ide connection input in which case a new DVD Rom is the answer, only cheap nowadays.
