Question about AOpen Aeolus 6600 GeForce 6600, (128 MB) Graphic Card

1 Answer

Distorted characters in text mode

First, the card was too hot. I have removed the cooling and have replaced the white pasta with silver pasta. Then the temp was much better. Now the last days I get at boot and in DOS-mode (start with DOS-diskette)the character ")" regular divided over the screen in rows and columns. When typing the characters of my keyboard, I see a wrong character at each postion where a ) is. What is wrong with this card. Is this a bios of the card problem. I have tried to find articles about how a video card works (functions), but nothing found.

Re: distorted characters in text mode

The card was too hot is a phrase that worries me. Hopefully damage wasn't done to the card. Have you downloaded the latest drivers from: Tim

I have Nvidia GeForce FX550 graphics card. I'm getting a double image in my text. So bad I can't read a string of numbers because they overlap. Is there a quick fix?

Check your settings to make sure you don't have some kind of 3D (glasses required) effect turned on. This kind of sounds like a symptom that you are describing.
Alternately, you can try on a pair of 3D glasses if you happen to have one, or start the computer in safe mode (tap the F8 key right after start-up and select safe mode. You should not notice any doubling because the graphics drivers are not being loaded.
If none of these ideas work, I would suggest reinstalling the drivers. First, uninstall the current drivers (control panel/add or remove programs, and select uninstall drivers. Then get the latest ones from and then install them. Reboot if needed and try again.

If graphic only using passive cooling (does not have a fan) this means currently cooling system can handle GPU temperature. This is not the reason of your problem..
Just check your OS first to make sure it working properly, if needed you can run safe mode.

I have a nvidia geforce 9600 which shows color distor5tion, white square dots , false color and 1's and 0's .the problem started when i did a low level formatting of the hard drive. please suggest solution...

I would uninstall all nvidia drivers using add/remove programs, restart the machine and let windows use default drivers until you download the latest drivers from the nvidia website. while using default drivers, the card will be in standard VGA mode, if there are no distortions, you know the card is ok. If you still get distortion with default drivers then your card is probably shot.
Good luck.

Video card shut down

you probably need a higher watt power supply in your case. Most stock ones are only about 350 watt. you'l need like a 450 watt or better with that power hungry card.

Tearing and distorted pixels in game animations

Does your video card have a cooling fan on it? Is it clogged or covered in dust, or moving at all? The issue you explain sounds like a heat issue, or possibly from overclocking, but you didnt mention that factor. Check to see how hot the heatsink is on your card when it happens, careful not to burn yourself though.
If temps seem okay, try uninstalling and reinstalling your drivers. Get the most up to date ones from the manufacturer website.

Card works in vga mode before installing 9-3_1_legacy_xp32-64_dd_ccc.exe After installing, video fails; displays only distorted flickering lines.

Restart your computer.
Tap on "Delete" until the BIOS comes up.
Look for an option for "VGA mode", as I wouldn't know what your BIOS is, you'll need to look carefully.
When you find it, shut it off, save your options then restart computer.
Comment if this didn't work, I can help you further.

Incomplete graphix on screen and slow computer response

What is the wattage of your PSU? You should have, minimum, a 300W psu installed. that "could" be the problem.

Are you able to get through POST boot? If so, can you load into safe mode? I would completely uninstall the drivers and reinstall again. I assume you're using XP, and with XP, it's always best to remove old vid drivers before installing new. Safe mode is the best place to do this, as it only loads the very basic vid drivers.

If you cannot get to safe mode, pull your card out, blow air in the AGP/PCI slot it uses. You may have some dust down there preventing a good connection.

Pop the card back in, load into safe mode if you can, uninstall/reinstall the drivers. If that is a no go, replace the card. Sometimes you DO get bad cards off the shelf.

Distorted images

sounds more like a problem with the drivers and/or the settings for resolution or refresh rate, have you tried to boot into safe mode and uninstall the drivers ? Also when you do this you may want to use a regisrty cleaner to remove all traces to the drivers in your registry as some driver do not remove all trace from the registry upon uninstallation.

Coloured And Dotted Lines Across My Screen

Firstly, start your pc in safe mode (f8) on boot up. This will start your pc in vga mode, and hopefully the lines are still there, which will indicate a faulty graphics card, if they aren't it may be a problem driver. If no lines, go to Add/remove programmes and uninstal your graphics driver. Re boot pc then when it finds your card make sure you point Windows to the folder in which you have saved the driver files. The driver should then install, see if any change. You may have to try some older drivers, as Nvidia can be awkward at times. I have had varying problems with Nvidia and replaced with ATI cards with no problems.
