Question about Carrier Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a unit that is about 1.5 yrs old. That AC is OK. When the Heat pump kick in, a strange smell exists. I have had the dealer out for trouble shooting and the tech discovered that the UV light was out and had "leaked".I still have the odor, it is not a dead animal smell. The dealer also ran that mildew removing spray? I still have the "catch in your throat" odor. Can you help? The dealer doesn't want to deal with it, or has no idea what it could be.

Heat Pump - blows heat to set temp, then off, then kicks on to blow cold

Heat pumps defrost which is the AC mode, if the heat strip isnt working during a defrost, the air will be cold, A heat pump only feels warm if the heat strips are on too! the refrigeration cycles heat output is much less sensible to our 98F skin. heat pumps that satisfy a room setpoint are working at least, all heat pumps feel drafty to most.

AC unit not kicking on...

You need a "Y" terminal. "Y" is pretty standard on every heat pump. It is the wire that will energize the compressor contactor at the outdoor unit, allowing the compressor and condensor fan to run.

Central heater kicks off and on constantly

It is a strong possibility the flame sensing electronic thermocouple has become contaminated. Buildup on it causes malfuctioning like you described. To remedy it you simple remove the flame sensor and clean it with steel wool. here is a video I found on line:

Furnace cycling frequently

Ruud UBHC AC System - Provides no Aux Heat

Tried this on my unit today, and observed the same results, but got Aux Heat (with A setting), if the H (blue wire) connected to B terminal, as per instructions for my 6036 Ritetemp. However, in this case, when the set temp is reached, I hear the click, but HVAC still blows aux heat indefinitely.

I also have RUUD UBEA 17J10..., and replaced my old honeywell with 6036, and can't get heat pump working. Both of my units are 14 years old, so I'm thinking to replace them soon.

I think your problem is poor usage of the device,i.e. overloading the system. try running better cables to your furnace and ac. The reason i am lead to believe that is. If you already hired a pro to come and fix it for you,and he/she could'nt then what else could it be? in my experience ac units use electricity like microwave ovens.and power tools

I am installing a Honeywell T841 onto existing RGYW wiring. The fan kicks on, but I notice the air conditioner is not running. Were one or more of these supposed to go on the W2 or B terminals? Thanks!

Need to have more numbers in model number to be sure There's about 30 T841 t'stats and some are1, 2, and 3 stage heat pump and some 1, 2, and 3stage AC.
If you have
R to transformer
G to fan relay
Y to contactor in outdoor unit
W to Gas valve
You have the thermostat wired right.
Depending on the T'stat B could be the common side of the transformer or 2nd stage heat.
W2 terminal are for 2nd stage heat
You need to put the thermostat on cool and lower the setting to bring on the cooling. Then go outside and see if you have power to the outdoor unit and 24 volts to the contactor coil.

First time we used the heat it smells.

Yes, It probably has electric secondary heat which will kick it about 4 deg under your set temp. It should smell like burned dust and go away within a days time. If it last longer or smells different you might want to have it investigated for a mouse nest or something.
