Question about LaCie 500GB d2 Quadra 500 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

Seems to take a LOONNNNGGG TIME ready the drive...

Now i am a music producer and the drive was alright when i left out of town last weds, i just returned today and its reading messages like, "problem with writing, save to another place", and " i have rebooted my computer several times, i even took my hard drive to another computer to make sure it was working, but when i hooked it up, it slowed down the entire processing of the PC, and im not used to it taken least than 3-5 seconds to read on any computer ive ever put it on... i guess my concern would be if there is a problem with the Drive, can it be fixed, and can my data be saved...

This may be a faulty power cable - a common La Cie problem apparently. Symptoms are some power getting through so blue light flickers, clicks, does not show up on desk top. I fixed mine with a new cable.

How can i put music on my usb hard drive

Is it a jump drive????? if so make you a folder on your desktop within the limits of of the space it has (ex: if its a 4gb you can prolly only put 3.5gb of music on it). Put all your music in the folder. after you're done, right click on the folder then left click on copy, then go to my computer and right click on your storage device and left click on paste......it should then have the music you want...hope that helps

How can i recoup my music files from my portable drive

Yes, most likely the disk is gone.
Last hope attempt: take out the hard disk from the case and put it directly in a desktop pc; in there, if the disk still had some life left in it, try to recover your files using a recovery program.

Mac won't acknowledge Mybook!

try restarting your computer with the mybook plugged into it. also, leave it plugged in for a while and check back to see if it shows up on the desktop. I had a similar problem with my hard drive too, and this seemed to work.

I sometimes manage to overcome a similar problem by turning the hard drive over and standing it upside down. Don't know what this does but it often seems to work

I dropped it on a floor. Now it gives an alarm sound.

wow..you'll need to get a data recovery expert to 'snapshot' your drive to attempt to recover your data. I'd suggest that the 'drop' did a major mechanical deal, like a head impact crash. Not good. A local tech store/computer shop MIGHT have the tools to extract the data. Last time I checked, it runs from 100 to 300 bucks, depending on what kind of files are retrieved.
