Question about Toshiba TP50H50 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Replacing the screen

I have been trying to replace the screen on this monster for a year now, but have no clue where to begin. I do google searches and all I can find are more people trying to sell me the tv I already have. I finally got a repair guy on the phone that said he would have to research it for me, but I haven't heard back from him. Is it really that hard to find a big piece of plastic? Any help would be awesome. I'm in the Michigan area and would be willing to travel or pay for shipping to get the screen, but I can't see paying $400-$500 for a screen for this tv and I can put that toward a nice HDTV or something.

I have a 60vf820 hdtv. The pictures appears to have a greenish tint but not all of the time. Sometimes the screen looks dim and sometimes appears normal. I have had the tv for 4 years and replaced the lamp...

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, greenish, or blueish or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as

This is a known problem to Samsung. A chip has gone bad and Samsung was replacing them at no charge a couple of years ago. Google this problem and try to locate a contact number and call them. If they are still covering this issue they will send a tech out to repair it in-home.

I replaced the lamp and now 5 months later it needs replaced again. Do you recommend replacing the cooling fans?

If it's a Toshiba that's normal. Toshiba has had some law suits and has been replacing some lamp or reimbursing customers. Contact Toshiba. Do Google search on this model. Any other model not normal may have bad lamp. Need brand and model number for better answer.

Most likely the lamp is dying. Try replacing the lamp before calling a repair tech. What does the Owners manual say about the blink lights?

Cracked screen and down screen

If the double images are located at the bottom on one side, you might have cracked the mirror inside the set and it has been displaced making the picture in that area bad (especially if the rest of the picture is OK)
